I was just gifted a 70's wooden sideboard that belonged to a family friend but was given to my brother and now to me. I am going to refinish it soon and it's still at my parents house. However it is locked and when I talked to the owner she says she gave my mom the key but my mom does not recall and has now looked for the key to no avail.
So if this key cannot be found what do I do? I am not going to bust it, I tried to pick it already today. Would I call a locksmith for this? The piece is open in the back currently as all the drawers were taken out for moving it.
Re: Locked cabinet WWYD
I agree with trying other old keys, I don't think old locks were very secure and another key might work. A locksmith would too, but that'll cost you.
Hey, I saw on FB that you are making the bench from Knock Off Wood? Your comment on their wall showed up on my feed. We just made the exact same bench, it turned out great! We used spruce because it was cheapest, but ours won't be outside. We're using it as a bench in our dining room.
I have been looking and looking for the right wood. I have been to 6 hardware/lumber stores! And I love lumber stores but that was my project for this week and now it's been post-poned. I still haven't found exactly what I needed but it's between doing spruce and sealing it really good or ripping 1x6 cedar.
As for the lock. Upon emailing our friend she thinks she might have taped the key into something so because half of it is at my brothers and the frame is at my parents they are looking for it. Hopefully it will all be good because I don't have money in the budget for a pricey locksmith.
