I have jury duty today

So not looking forward to it. I was debating bringing my laptop with me, but decided against lugging big bulking things around. So I'll be finishing my Jules Verne (that I've had for over a month and have to bring back to the library soon). Here's to hoping they don't pick me!

Re: I have jury duty today

  • Good luck! I hope you don't get picked or insanely bored while waiting!

I'm one of the weirdos that wants to get picked for jury duty but alas, i wasn't. :( I was still there all day though. And the security guard who watched over us fancied himself a comedian. ;)

  • After being out on furlough from work for 5 weeks, the week DH is supposed to go back to work (this week), he's on Jury duty stand by. =/ So far (since Tuesday), he's in the clear...we're still holding out breath that he doesn't get called.

Good luck! I hope they don't call you! =)

  • Jury duty is only annoying because there's a lot of waiting around.  I have been in a selection pool twice, once in criminal court and once in civil court.  I have always made up my mind about the case immediately and have said so.  The last one was a personal injury case where the woman slipped in front of a store and "hurt" herself.  It was laughable.  Needless to say they didn't pick me.

Ha, Amy, I so could see you being vocal about the cases!

And alas, I didn't even have to sit there long. As soon as we started filling out the paperwork, all the unemployed caretakers of young children were asked to go into a separate room and I was basically given an expemtion for the next two years! I got home at 10am! So now we have a nice family day since DH is home today :)

    Moi?!  Never.

It's nice that you were exempted.  Most of the time they make a big deal about how no job is more important than jury duty.  I guess parenthood has the trump card on that one.

Yup, I guess they figure I can't get alternate childcare arrangements (it would suck for DH to have to take so much time off unpaid if I were selected), so they send us back home. Hey, I'm not complaining!

  • A teacher from school once asked to be on jury duty, because she had a very hard class. I did it once for two days, just bored and a lot of waiting. They called so many people that I had to stand in line for 4 hours and at least one hour in the rain.
