So someone just called the house phone from a number I do not recongnize and asked for Ma-Lane.  I'm assuming they were trying to pronounce my name and just said it really wrong.  I said there was nobody here by that name and they hung up.

    Eh, it was probably a telemarketer.  Even when they say my name correctly I usually tell them they have the wrong number!

    Don't feel bad I do that all the time.  My rule is if they have a funny accent than I'm not talking to them.  They call the office for my dad all the time whose name is Dennis and yet they pronounce it Da-neece (Danise).  Not only are they saying it wrong but they are giving him a sex change!

    I reversed searched the number and it is some kind of telemarketing thing.  I find it odd because i know our number is on the do not call registry.

    The do not call list is a joke.  We are on it and get calls all the time.  Mention it though and they apologize right away and hang up.

    no one can pronounce our last name - in fact when we got married our officiant had some chicken scratch at the bottom of our vows that I was trying to peak at during the ceremony - my husband had written out our last name phonetically JAM-PEE-TRO. People call my office all the time and just ask for me by my first name because they have no idea on the last, so needless to say if you call my house and can't figure it out, chances are it's a telemarketer.

    it's ok, my mom kept our wedding invitation on the fridge door for a year so she would spell it correctly - I'm used to it, the bad thing is people always spell it wrong and of course it's part of my work email - so now my IT people just forward me all odd ball emails that come in, 99% of the time they are for me.
