This is probably a very stupid question but I suck at makeup. I only wear it when I go out for dinner or something like that. I want to start wearing it everyday, and I want to know what your routine is like. What products do you use? The only thing I have that's really great is Diorshow mascara which I love

Re: Makeup routine
Yeah.... I'm the worst at this. When I REMEMBER (or have time) my routine looks like this:
Wash my face w/ neutrogena... the orange stuff.
Neutrogena toner
Moisturizer w/ SPF (sometimes a tinted moisturizer, if my skin looks ick)
Pressed powder (drug store crap, Cover Girl something-or-other)
I use MAC eyeshadow with a brow brush to darken my brows (they're blond, lighter than my hair, it's weird)
MAC Teddy eyeliner (if I'm so inclined...... usually I'm not)
Cover Girl eyeshadow- Peach Melba
If I'm feeling dangerous I might add a little darker brown shadow to my crease, CG again, I forget the name. Something yummy like cappuchino I think?
Almay dark brown mascara (hypoallergenic and super nice to my sensitive eyes)
MAC lipstick- Shy Girl
When I'm going out I use a darker orange shadow at the outside of my lids, Sunset or something like that- also Cover Girl. And I might use foundation, also CG. Apparently I like CG more than I realized...?
Not that my colors are going to help you very much with your gorgeous olive skin tone! LOL

Hippie- that's a lot for someone who sucks at make-up.
Here's my routine (by someone who truly sucks at make-up):
In the Summer: Wash my face with Olay Regenerist (thinking of switching, though). Toner. Olay regenerist moisterizer. Great lash mascara. Chapstick. 5 minutes total.
In the Not Summer:
See above through moisturizer, Bare Minerals Glow, Bare Minerals Foundation (full brush, then concealer brush), Bare Minerals Bronzer, a touch more Glow, Bare Minerals Mineral powder, Great Lash Mascara, Revlon Lip Gloss. Less than 10 minutes total.
I, also, am open to suggestions. Especially Skin care.

AM:
Wash face with Proactiv
Apply Mary Kay Velocity moisturizer
Apply Mary Kay mineral foundation
Apply Mary Kay blush
That's my daily routine, no matter what (when I actually leave the house...if not, just wash the face!)
Sometimes, if I feel up to it, I'll use the Mary Kay "pallet" for my eyes (they make pre-determine sets of eyeliner and eye shadows)
If I'm going out, I'll put on the CoverGirl Lip Stain and Mary Kay mascara
Nah, not really. Key words are "when I remember", which is about twice a month LOL! 98% of the time I stop at the moisturizer, and I almost never wear the eyeliner unless a customer's coming in or I'm going out at night. It really only takes me 5 or so minutes

LOL
I don't forget, I just...don't. Seriously lacking in skills. I don't think I could put on eyeliner if someone put a gun to my head, and I'm remedial in shadow.
However, H thinks what I said above is too much makeup. Crazy.

DUDE! I went to a MAC store and they taught me all I needed to know! All I did was buy a couple of the brushes they used afterward- MAC brushes are my favorite, as inexperienced as I am (and then I practiced like hell for months) I ended up doing my own makeup for the wedding (fake eyelashes and all)
I say I suck at it because I'm pretty good at only one look. I can't do anything else LOL. Always the same style liner and shadow (colors may vary)

Bella, you asked for details, you get details.... lol
Wash face in shower with blue Neutrogena stuff.
Pat face with towel (no rubbing!) might still be slightly wet.
In the time, the old robe goes on, face is totally dry. (Sadly, now that I'm 30, my skin is bone dry, think Sahara desert. I was Oily McOilyson when I was younger, but *bam* 28 and suddenly I'm all old lady dry.)
Put contacts in.
Retrieve pea-sized amount of La Mer from jar and spread all over face and neck.
Once that's dry, apply La Mer SPF 15 lotion on face.
While creams and lotions are sinking in, dry hair.
(At this point, if I use primer, this is where I do it. Once my face is totally dry and all of the lotion and cream has sunk in. I don't primer often. I get lazy.)
Get dressed.
Put on MAC concealer (foundation, too, if face is unhappy and needs more coverage)
Put on Tarte cheek gel
Moisturize lips with balm (no gloss... I only gloss at work.)
Mascara
Aaaaaand done!

I can't stand foundation so I only wear it off I am going somewhere special or feel I will be photographed a lot.
Most days I wear tinted moisturizer, mascara and lip gloss. If I am feeling motivated enough I add blush and eyeliner. I own bronzer, highlighter, and eye shadow but very rarely actually use them.
Stop into Sephora, they will be able to give you a lot of tips and samples to try out. You can also try watching some of the beauty gurus on YouTube - my favorites are emilynoel83, juicystar07, and missglamorazzi
~I wash my face with Aveeno clear complexion
~Apply Clean and Clear moisturizer
~L'oreal roller true match foundation
~Cover Girl concealer under my eyes
~Avon waterproof eyeliner (black)
~Avon eyeshadow (light brown, dark brown, and cream in the corners of my eyes)
~Maybelline mineral blush in peach (for the summer. In winter, I like more pink)
~Maybelline Full n' Soft mascara in black (thought it looks like it might be discontinued. That makes me super sad.) Or Avon waterproof if I'll be in water.
~Avon glazewear gloss sometimes
Haha. That is a lot of different brands! I've experimented with several brands and put together my current routine which I really like.
oh SH!T i feel like a done up tramp right now lol.
every single day. EVERYDAY.
wash my face in the shower with some clean and clear face wash (w/ microscrubbers that dissolve after 10 seconds of light circular motion) This way my pores are open and can get cleaned out. (it's the same effect as a sauna- that's why scandinavian people have famously good skin- they sweat out the dirt with moist steam and clean when the skin's pores are open)
moisturize. no toners, just lotion. my face HATES face moisturizers. i use a eucerin body lotion.
PUR minerals foundation/powder (spf 15).
TWO colors of blush- a peachy tone i use instead of a bronzer, and then a light pink on the apples of my cheeks. (i am EXTREMELY pale.)
depending on the day, and how my eyes feel and the colors i'm wearing, i'll do shadows and/or eyeliner. i have a bunch of shadows i use normally- but i ALWAYS use shadow (even if it's "skin-tone") or the concealer/foundation on my eyes will crease.
the bare minimum for eyes: eggshell/lightlight pink under the brow bone to highlight, and skin-tone shadow on the rest of the eye lid. Then i brush in a brown pressed powder for my eyebrows- no pencils, and mascara. then some lip balm/chapstick.
the slutty look: all of that plus a darker/sparkly/heavier eye shadown on the lid, in the crease, and on the corners (shaped more like an oval out of the corner), plus some eyeliner (brown or grey, depending on my ensemble or mood) smudged/blended with a sponge tip, and two coats of mascara. - i also use a fan brush in some of the light highlighting color and make a half circle from right above the end of my brow to about a third of the way into the orbital bone under the eye.
daily, i go somewhere between the bare-minimum for eyes and halfway to the slutty look. but i ALWAYS. ALWAYS. have the foundation/blush/eyebrows/mascara combo.

Here's my routine.
Wash face in shower with Proactiv.
Pat dry face and follow with Proactiv Toner, Proactiv Lotion, and Proactiv Daily Oil Control.
I have EXTREMELY oily skin. So oily that my makeup will just disappear within a couple hours. To control this from happening, I use Phillips Milk of Magnesia. I shake the bottle up and use a cotton ball to dip some out of the cap and rub it all over my face. The chalk keeps the oil under control.
I use Dinair Airbrush Makeup. I get my foundation out and just do a light mist over my face but if it is for something special, I will put a little more on.
Typically, I do not wear eye liner, it just doesn't look good on me so I usually do a darker shade of shadow on my lower lid, than a lighter shade on the middle part of my lid and usually a cream or tan color on the top part of my lid. I mix and match my shadows, everything from MAC to Covergirl to Shadowbox. I LOVE eyeshadows! Even though I have a ton of eye shadow brushes, I typically just use q-tips, I prefer them over the brushes.
For my blush, if I don't use my airbrush blush then I will use either a Covergirl blush or a Revlon blush. The colors are usually a peachy or soft coral color, I live by warm tones.
Lipstick is usually just a gloss or chapstick, nothing more.
I finish it all up with hairspray. Like I said, my skin is EXTREMELY oily and the hairspray helps to hold everything the way I want it to look for longer than a hour.
In the morning, I wash wash my face with a cleanser. usually garnier gel face scrub. And I apply a moisturizer (either Eucerin with SPF 30).
Then I use bare minerals foundation, concealer under my eyes, a little eye shadow and mascara. If I feel the need for any extras, I add a little blush to my cheekbones, and lipgloss.
So, my routine:
Shower and use Murad 3-step cleanser. Basically a soap, then when you get out and pat your face dry, a toner and then moisturizer.
Then I use SPF 50 Neutrogena sunscreen with helioplex, cause I'm special and allergic to the sun.
Ok, main secret, bare minerals is a freaking God send. For real. I have massive blemishes, see allergic to the sun business above lol. It covers everything and is wicked light. So put that on. There is a tutorial, and they will teach you at a place like Sephora/Ulta.
Bare Minerals blush on face.
Sometimes that's it. If I'm going for a more made up look, I'll throw on eye shadow/liner/mascara/mac lipstain. Lately though, I've just done the bare minimum. Although, I also like the look of no shadow but still putting on mascara, sounds weird but looks good.
Don't feel weird about not knowing about makeup! I still go into those stores and pretend to know nothing so they will show me. Well, really I pretty much know nothing, so it's not far off from the truth, but I'm sure I could figure it out but I might as well have a professional teach me if at all possible. Good luck! The thing that sucks about makeup is that it is expensive and sometimes takes a few misses before you really find out what works for you which can be costly. But you'll figure it out! You're a smart lady
