Re: If you are on or were on Yaz

  • I stopped taking it because it made me sick to my stomache. And my periods have always been pretty regular, so I guess Im no help to you, sorry...
  • I've had a good experience on Yaz (now I'm on the generic, Gianvi).  I didn't have any bad side effects, I actually lost weight when I started taking it.  It's cleared up my skin wonderfully, too.  That plus the shorter lighter periods.  I haven't discontinued, so I can't tell you about that.

  • It gave me migraines and I hated it. I got off it and a month later I was pregnant so I guess your cycle goes back to normal pretty quick. lol
  • I got migraines and very bad mood swings..  I went from yaz to a different pill, so my period just switched over to that.
  • I was on it for 3 years and had no side effects from it.  I went in for blood work for another reason and my potassium was high, which can cause kidney and heart problems.  My OB made me stop taking it and come back a week later for more blood work; it was back in a normal range.  So physcially I didn't have any problems that I knew of, but I am glad that I found out what effect it had on my body before it could do permanent damage.
  • I also lost weight when I first went on it and my skin cleared up a lot.  My periods became so regular on the pill that I know almost to the hour when I will get it and they are shorter...but not lighter.  I haven't stopped taking it so I can't tell you about that, but I probably will soon so maybe I could let you know then.  :)

Being on it has been a good experience if that helps.

  • I started on Yaz when I was 17, mostly because I had amenorrhea. My periods became regular right in the first month (I'm not sure how helpful that is for you though...). However, I had really horrible mood swings and was constantly exhausted so I eventually stopped taking it after 5 months or so and went on Loestrin and the generic for a few years with good results. I have had friends who have had good experiences on Yaz though.

  • It also gave me horrible mood swings til I became almost suicidal. Everyone's body reacts differently to meds, so it may work great for you. All you can do is try and then be aware of how you feel on it and let your doctor know if your moods shift or you become ill. There are so many out there to try.

  • When I was on it I only got my period every 3-4 months.  That caused me to be moody!  I also didn't enjoy paying for bc pilss AND pregnancy tests every month.  Took about 3 months to get back to normal when i stopped it.

  • Yaz was horrible for me. I took it for 2 years and my periods never became regulated. I would have either 2 periods a month or no period at all. The months that I did have periods they would be very long and heavy. Also, it made me incredibly sick to my stomach. It was to the point I almost had to have my gallbladder removed. I do not suggest this bc to anyone, it was a miserable experience! Since changing bc, now on Ortho Tri, my periods are only 4 days and like clockwork!

  • On it for 4+ years.  Love it.  Took about 2-3months to regulate and periods are light and short.  No complaints!
  • For me it was the worst most evil thing ever made.  The ONLY positive I had with it was my cycle was down to about 6 hours of spotting after about 3 months.  Wasn't worth the rest of the damage it did. So glad my PCP listened to me that something was wrong when my former OB/GYN failed to pay attention and tried to pass things off as being normal before things got even worse.

    Cancer sucks.
  • I have been taking Yaz for about 3 years and I love it! It took about 3 months for me to become regulated on it though. I remember being really frustrated during that time b/c of mood swings. Now, my period is light, regular, and I am not crazy! haha! My H was able to tell a difference too! I give it an A+! Good luck!!
  • I was on Yazmin for a while and it worked quite well.

stopped taking it due to cost.

won't take it after hearing all of the bad side-effects that there are currently law suits about.

  • I was on Yasmin/Yaz for 6 years.

I had 2-3 day periods, hardly any cramps, clearer skin, etc. I started off feeling better on it than off, but by the end, I started feeling better off than on.

I got pregnant on it - which ended quickly in a chemical pregnancy/miscarriage. I quit cold turkey.

I got pregnant the 2nd cycle after that.

  • I had been taking Yasmin for a couple of years until recently.  I went from having about one migraine a year (since I was 10 yrs old) to having about 2 a month.  My OB switched me from Yasmin to Yaz in March of this year.  It took about 3 months for my periods to regulate.... I'd have a period when I wasn't on the sugar pills, or I wouldn't have one at all.  I've only had 1 migraine since changing and that was in May.  I've been fine since.

There are law suits and bad side effects for just about every medication out there.  Don't let that bother you too much... lawyers are going through this bad economy too, so you'll see more commercials.  Just keep track of all of your periods, head aches, mood swings, etc.  Keep a BC journal if you feel it could be helpful.

  • I was on Yaz for 2 1/2 years. While my period was regulated, my mood swings were not, and within 6 months of taking it, I started developing really bad stomach aches & pains.  I ended up in the emergency room with horrible pains in my stomach, & it was "just gas"...but for the next year, i went through heartburn & anti gas meds to no avail, & had my pancreas & gallbladder looked at.  While they never determined exactly what was causing the pain, 3 months after my endoscopy, I stopped taking Yaz.  A month later, I had no more excessive gas, unless I ate something like broccoli or sauteed onions, or excrutiating stomach pains.  My period is still regulated even though I haven't been taking any BC since I stopped Yaz.  My moods are back to normal, even while on my period.  I wouldn't recommend this BC to anyone.

  • I was on yasmin for about two years, it resulted in what is a beautiful 5 year old little girl. And yes, I took the pill everyday at about the same time every night.

Same thing happened to me. Everything was great, mild cramps, clear skin, and then I got pregnant. then miscarried which was awful, and i have refused to go back to it.

I was on it for 3 years.  It took me 6 cycles to get regular, but my periods weren't crazy-off schedule. =)
