or something to that effect. I got an iphone! This may not seem like a big deal to any of you, but the last time I got a new phone was about 4 years ago, and I have never ever paid for a phone before - I've always just got the "free when you sign a contract phone" so it's never been anything special. So I'm really really excited. It's an iphone 3GS, I thought that now would be a good time to get it since the iphone 4 is coming out, so they're nice and cheap
Plus with all the new packages, I will end up paying less per month for my phone bill than what I had been!!
I just got it out of the box and am playing with it now, there is lots to learn - any good recommendations for apps?
Re: I just joined the technological revolution
I'm a technological caveman (or woman, whatever...). I refuse to get the iphone or anything similar because I think it'll be a waste of my time. I HATE talking on the phone... I'm not supposed to have my cellphone in my building while I'm at work anyway, so I would only use it at night or on the weekends and I can use my netbook for stuff during those times. I think the phone would be fun to play with, but I just don't think I really need one!
You've heard what I've done, not what I've been through.
If you were in my shoes, you'd fall the first step."
I use my phone ALL the time, I'm constantly texting or talking to my best friend and my sisters. Being without a cell phone legit causes me panic, I know I'm a complete loser for this but I can't help it. I can't tell you how many times I have been out and wished I had a map, or could find the closest Starbucks, or that I had a camera with me...etc etc. So this phone can do all that, and I think that's just awesome! Plus I have total ADD, so if I am at a hockey game with HH (hockey is his job) it will give me something to play with
Becca, I don't know how much I'm liking it yet because I literally JUST got it and itunes is still updating on my computer so I haven't used it yet
Haha I know how you feel! I just got a smartphone over the weekend, its a Tmobile MyTouch 3G Slide. It's pretty similar to an iphone but has a slide out keyboard. I hate typing on touch screens, so it's perfect! I love it so far. I have used the map function which is great because my GPS recently died on me, and I used it to find a post office on my way home from work yesterday!
but I don't get the iPhone hype, I think they are super overrated. But then, I hate iTunes, and I am not very fond of Apple products (i had a macbook, it sucked)
We're waiting for my contract to expire in the Fall. There is a lot of good medical apps for HH now that he'll be in med school. Since AT&T has implemented their new plan $25 for 2 GB we're going to try and talk them into giving us the old unlimited plan since he's been a long time customer. If not, we'll wait until another company (Verizon?) has it on their plan. I really want an iphone, but I can wait. I rarely text as it is, but having all those apps makes it super appealing.
We're geeks and have been discussing all the iphone4 news and what we'll do when we get it. haha
I'm jealous! My husband and I really want iphones, but can't afford it right now. The iphone is probably the only smartphone that would actually be fully useful for him. It has great accessibility features for low vision people. We have ipod touches and love them!
What type of apps are you looking for? I love the epicurious app. It has lots of recipes, and you can add them to your favorites and make a shopping list from those. It's a free app. My favorite game at the moment is Angry Birds. It's $0.99, but there is a free version too. Mixology is an app with lots of mixed drink recipes.
I like looking at the top free apps and download anything remotely interesting since they are free.
So I have just spent the past two hours downloading anything that looks even remotely useful or appealing from the free apps, haha!
I wish the nest had an app too, that would be sooooooooo awesome for me since I'm a total creeper and spend so much time on here!
DOWNLOAD ANGRY BIRDS!!!!!!!!!!!!! best 99 cents I've ever spent hahaha
The Sherwin Williams app is great too!
I agree that the iphone is huge - it is going to take some getting used to holding it and talking on it. But my old phone was a dinosaur-ish flip phone, so in all honesty not THAT much smaller...hahaha ok maybe a bit smaller, but it was getting embarrassing whipping it out in public...so all in all I'm happy so far!
Ooooh, I'll have to try that the next time I'm stuck on the iPad from work. It frustrates me to no end that The Nest is pretty much read-only when I'm using it.
In my personal life, I am becoming more and more of a Luddite. Matt just got a new phone. He went from the Dare (fancy-pants touch-screen piece of crap) to a very, very basic flip phone. We made a conscious decision to NOT get the free wireless router for our internet; we are hardwired. I literally wrote out a business letter in longhand today on a ruled "writing tablet" from Dollar General. Yes, like my grandma. I'm too cheap to buy ink for the printer.
