We are in need of a new computer soon, and are pretty sure that we want to get a MAC. Any tips/suggestions/must have accessories? Have you had any problems, and if so, was Apple customer service helpful? This is my one and only resistance, is that we have had awful customer service for our ipods. TIA!
Re: MAC users
Hey V -
I have a basic macbook laptop. Ive never had any problems with it, other than the battery JUST died on me a few weeks ago, after 5 years of having the computer... the replacement battery cost $130
so I wasnt really happy about that...
Other negatives - I dont really like how Microsoft Office works on theMac, I just dont like the format - AND it doesnt come with the mac, so you have to buy it separately ($$$). I did find NeoOffice (freeware) online that I did like for documents and spreadsheets...There are also a few web programs (blurb's photo book software comes to mind) that do not work on Macs
But these are all minor issues - I love my Mac. The computer rarely freezes, and Ive never had virus or download issues (Macs arent able to get viruses, or so I hear). The built in camera feature is convenient for Skype, and I like the iPhoto program, and use garage band pretty regularly for remixing music for my pop warner team.
I love my mac. I have a macbook laptop. I've had it since 2007 and the hard drive did crap out. Thankfully we had everything already transferred to another computer so we didn't lose anything. I was still under warranty so they installed a new hard drive and replaced my key board and cover thingy because it was chipping.
I also have an imac in my office and LOVE it. I was able to get Microsoft office the student and teacher version (which is the same thing as the regular version only cheaper) because I was in grad school at the time. So if you are a teacher you get it for like $135.
Mac's take some time to get used to but otherwise I have no idea why anyone would use a pc unless they have to for work. I never get a virus, I don't have to do any of those virus updates like with a pc. It's just so much easier. Most times when I have to use a PC at a friends or parents house it takes me some time to figure it all out. haha. Good luck!
I have a Macbook at work and a Mac Mini at home. I haven't run into any problems with customer service, and I haven't really had trouble with applications that I want to run that are Windows-only. I actually did not have the same experience with Blurb as a pp -- I did a photobook on Blurb on my Mini earlier this year with no problem. The hardware has been great, no issues. I'm a huge fan.
