I was looking at your blog post about Italy and it looks like you had an amazing trip! My H and I are going to Florence, Tuscany, Rome and the Amalfi Coast for 2 weeks. Would you mind sharing the hotels you stayed in? How long was the train ride from Florence to CT? Where did you do the cooking class? We have our flights booked but everything else we are still researching so any info or tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Re: ***MrsT2008
absolutely! Some of the info I may have to gather tonight when I get home, but I'll share what I remember for now!
In Florence we stayed at the Hotel Santa Maria Novella which is in the vicinity of the train station (very convenient). It was my favorite hotel of our trip! Amalfi we stayed at Hotel Luna (in the town of Amalfi. I actually would recommend staying in the town of Sorrento. Amalfi the town is very small and there isn't a ton to do. Sorrento is much more lively and there is more going on. I don't have recs for hotels there though). In Rome we stayed at Hotel Quirinale. I wouldn't really recommend it. It was nice, but it's old and they haven't done much in the way of updating it (doors to the rooms were thin like plywood, smelled old, etc).
The train ride from Florence to CT is 2 parts - first you take a train to Pisa which I believe was about 90 minutes. Then in Pisa you catch a train to Riomaggiore which is the first village in CT. That didn't take long...half hour maybe? I don't even think it was that long.
The cooking class in Florence was amazing - but I will have to go look at the info at home to get you the name of the place. But I highly recommend it!
I definitely recommend the day trip to Capri from the Amalfi Coast - it was awesome! I can also recommend specific restaurants, but again, I'll have to go home and look for the info!
You'll have an amazing time!

MrsT- those are great recs, I'll have to save those away for our next trip to Italy!
Sept09- I wanted to throw in my rec for a hotel in Rome, Hotel Columbus. Its also a bit older, a converted 15th/16th ce castle. However, its right next to the Vatican, you are steps from St. Peter's Basilica and Castel Sant'Angelo is close as well. They had a wonderful full breakfast in the morning as well.
We enjoyed it when went, but its been a few years since that trip.
I hope you love Italy!
