Bathroom renovation questions
We would like to renovate our master bathroom. We are 1st time homeowners & have never renovated anything. So, I have a few questions from those of you who may have done yours (I ask here and not D&R since it seems logical prices would be drastically different in different cities).
First, what was the cost?
Second, if you used a great plumber, please share.
If you have any great tips & tricks, I'd love to hear them.
Thanks!
Re: Bathroom renovation questions
What are you hoping to do? Are you going to be doing it yourself? We ripped ours out a few years ago, redid the walls with tile, tiles the floor, tiled the area around where the tub goes, new cabinet/countertop/sinks/hardware/paint, and installed a new tile showerpan and seamless glass shower surround.
I think in total it was about $7K, but I don't even remember at this point. We did it ourselves. The quote for someone else to do it with lesser-grade materials was about $12K.
No plumber recs, C did it all himself.

It completely depends on what you want to do....
Ours includes a new toilet, new flooring, paint, new light fixtures, and a medicine cabinet. We aren't moving anything, though we talked about it. We're in the midst of it now... it's not fun losing a bathroom, so make sure you're prepped for that. We bought our flooring and cabinet a few years ago. I want to say the whole thing is $1K, but I can't remember how much we paid for the flooring ( I know it wasn't a ton since we went with laminate tile).
((butting in here))
This is really helpful- would you be able to tell me where you got your items?
How did you get the knowledge to do these as DIY?
How difficult was DIY?
We think we want to replace the floor, shower tile, sink (and add a vanity and possibly a seond sink), toilet, paint.
I tried to paint our dining room table and not only does it not look great, but it took me forever and it was kind of hard! I'm wonderin ghow well we'll do with bathroom reno? Also, has anoyone used porceline flooring? I am looking at that and wood. Curious how porceline looks, costs.
Tile ranges from cheap to expensive. You can find basic 12 inch ceramic tiles for under $1 at lowes & home depot. Honestly though I think I'd hire someone for that b/c the only way to correct a bad tile job is to tear it out. Wood isn't a good choice for a full bath but you can find tile that looks just like wood planks. Painting a wall is way easier than painting furniture, IMO! I tried replacing my sink but I didn't get everything tightened up enough. It wasn't hard but I was doing it alone & didn't have much room to move. I think a toilet would be pretty easy.
