Vent

I moved to this new city 10 days ago.  I only know one other couple here, they have an 18 month old and a 5 week old.  So they're pretty busy.

HH has lived here for a year, but most of his weekends were either with me, four hours away, or away for work, so he doesn't really know anyone here either.

He leaves tomorrow morning for a two week business trip.  He is supposed to be home by 5pm, so we could spend our last night together doing something fun.  It is now 7pm, and he is still not home.  Apparently a big project got dropped on AS HE WAS LEAVING HIS OFFICE...that's right, at 5pm on a Friday afternoon in July, literally as he's leaving the office for two weeks.  So I have no idea when he'll be home tonight.  AND he didn't come home for lunch today because he was so busy.

I am faced with the prospect of two very lonely weeks, not to mention that I am so upset about our last night together being robbed by the jackasses that he works for, that I am sobbing.

Who's drinking with me tonight??

  • Booo!  That sucks!  Anyway you could convince any of your girlfriends to make the 4 hour trip this weekend and come play with you?  Then maybe you could go to a bar or something and meet some new people around the area! Put yourself out there girl!  Go take a yoga class or something!

I always meet new interesting people at yoga.

I hope the next two weeks aren't too hard for you.  I know how it can be moving to a new place where you don't really know anyone.  And it's harder to put yourself out there at 26 than it is when your 8.  =)

And PS... no one says you and HH can't still have a fun night together!!(wink, wink!)

  • Jenny, this is going to sound ridiculous, but there are NO YOGA STUDIOS here!!  Oh my god this is such a little po-dunk town.  I used to work at a yoga studio, I friggin love yoga.  It was the absolute first thing I looked into when making the move.  And nothing.  I find that almost surreal.

I don't even have a gym membership, HH gets one free from work, and it expires when we're on our honeymoon at the beginning of August, so we're going to sign up for a couples membership as soon as we get back.

I honestly don't even really mind being alone, I find that I can entertain myself pretty well.  I really do enjoy cleaning, and I love to read, and I can certainly go shopping and go out for a run...I'm really just disapointed that he's leaving for so long when we just got together again, and that our plans for tonight were ruined.  I'm gonna have a couple of drinks and I'll be back to my normal happy self by tomorrow I'm sure :)

  • Boo! That stinks! At least your DH is super cute, though :) Rent some chick flicks and read some girly books in the evenings while he's gone! My DH is going out of town for one week this month, and I'll definitely be sad, but I'm fortunate enough to have my family and friends around.  PS - Have you always lived in Canada?

  • I know what you mean. We just moved to a new city after we got married and I know a few people here but they are always busy. DH hasn't had to go out of town yet but he's fixing to in a week or so be gone for like 4 or 5 days. I think I'm more upset about just being lonely and only having my dogs to talk to....I like the idea of the yoga class though. I may have to check into that. We haven't gotten gym memberships yet because we're still trying to get so many things situated with the house repairs and I'm not working so its just a royal pain. I'd hang out with you if you weren't on the other side of the continent.

  • I?m having my wine with you too! I also tried yoga, but it?s not easy being focus and translate english to spanish at the same time... and i can?t think in english at all! but well, you ladies are teaching me!

I could suggest going a bar on Sundaay for the final game of soccer world cup, everybody uses to be very sociable at these moments, believe me!!!

i hope you enjoy your time and two weeks go very fast!

  • I'm here!!!  I'm drinking beer tonight.  I had plans to try some new drinks, but I didn't make it to the liquor store, so I've got beer and we're watching Band of Brothers on blu-ray.

I'm sorry you're lonely, but if it's any consolation, you've got me!!!  And hey, I'm pretty awesome and I occasionally have funny stories!  I'll tell Adam hge needs to hurry up and do something stupid so you can laugh at him!

  • lol Stu our tastes are far too similar, earlier I was going to suggest you watch band of brothers :) I hate war stuff usually but  really liked it! There's a second series called the Pacific, it's not AS good, but it's still really good :)

  • When he did finally arrive home last night, he came bearing ice cream - so the night wasn't a total loss :)  He just left about an hour ago so I'm officially a single, stay at home mom to Stella for the next two weeks.  I'm going to finally get my library card and take out some good books, and just enjoy not shaving my legs for a while.

Ash, I'll have to tell him you think he's cute - I do too!  He still gives me butterflies after 4.5 years!  And I've always lived in Canada, other than a six month stint when I lived in New Zealand.  Why do you ask?  (Please don't tell me it's because of my blatant ignorance towards some All-American topics...)

  • Haha I've just never known anyone that lived in Canada before....and I think you mentioned in a previous post that your DH does something with hockey in Canada so I was wondering if you moved there for that.

  • Well, now you know a Canadian!  We're awesome, really :)  And yeah, HH grew up playing hockey, as most good Canadian boys do...he was just lucky enough to make it his career as well!
