It's wild living with the little man. He's comfortable enough with us now that he's begun testing our limits. He's also regressing more and more each day. While it's a bit annoying knowing that today he won't do the things he did yesterday, we know it's part of the process, and we're happy it's happening now, here in Peru, where he feels comfortable. He needs to know where we stand, and he needs to know we'll be there for him, and this is the only way he knows how to do it. We just didn't expect it to happen this soon. Sometimes it's tough knowing when to stand our ground and when to nourture! I sometimes feel as if I'm living with a 7 year-old going through his terrible twos!
At the same time, it's wonderful! Now that we are finally allowed more time about town, we went to the zoo yesterday and to the beach today. M had never seen the ocean before he moved in with us, so today was a blast! It's such a fantastic feeling to be able to show him new things and watch as he figures out how the waves work and all the other things about the beach. He's also very sweet, kind, compasionate, and loving. I don't ever want to live without him again!
Re: Bonding Update for Those Interested
That's so great! I mean, not about testing limits, but I suppose that is to be expected (and encouraged). I'm so happy for you and your family!

Dammit. I just finished doing my makeup, and this post made me cry.
I'm so happy for you guys. Congrats!

That's because you're his mom.
Keep updating! I love living vicariously this way. Obviously the logistics were different, but it's reminding me of how the first weeks felt with my kids. Those ah-ha moments when you get glimpses of who they really are and how you'll feel once it's like there was never a time they weren't there.
"The meek shall inherit the earth" isn't about children. It's about deer. We're all going to get messed the fuckup by a bunch of cloned super-deer.- samfish2bcrab
Sometimes I wonder if scientists have never seen a sci-fi movie before. "Oh yes, let's create a super species of deer. NOTHING COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG." I wonder if State Farm offers a Zombie Deer Attack policy. -CaliopeSpidrman
The nerve!
