WHY am I looking at houses!?!?

G and I just bought our "starter home" a little over a year and a half ago.  It is a small three bedroom ranch (only about 960 square feet.)  It is small but plenty for just the two of us but needed A LOT of updating.

Ideally, I will start working this fall and in about 3-4 more years we can start searching for our "forever" home.  I want something big enough to host all family gatherings (we have huge families and I love to entertain!) and something we won't outgrow.

I love old houses that are nicely kept up and can be made beautiful.  This one in particular...but I REALLY need to stop looking.

Re: WHY am I looking at houses!?!?

  • I am clearly living in the wrong state if that is what 125,000 will get me. The average home value in our city is 293,000.

It's a really cute house though!

  • That is actually priced pretty low. I sent my realtor a FB message just to see if she could find any more info (how long it's been listed, why it's "priced to sell," etc). New builds in our town go for much more than that and sell like crazy but I just really love the older homes that always get overlooked.

That's what I was thinking! That house would be upwards of 300,000 here!

I was thinking the exact same thing! We just bought our starter home for 300,000! I would die and go to heaven if I could purchase a home as cute as that for that price! :) You can hardly get a trailer here for that much.

That house is adorable, Courtney, and you should totally look into it more.

We've had a pipe dream of moving to Boise sometime in the future (we would have to wait for at least 3 or 4 years) and I caught myself looking online at houses too. It's a dangerous habit :)

  • Looking is always ok - it's good to have a good idea of how much things cost so that you can prepare financially :-).

  • Nothing wrong with looking.  We bought our forever house last August and I still look at house!  I'm actually obsessed anytime a house comes on the market in our subdivision I'm all over it.

As for the price, Ohio definately has good prices!  I watch house hunters on TLC and can't believe how much small/gross houses are in other cities.

  • I love it! I like old houses too. We plan to sell within the next year and will be looking for something similar. ::off to sulk in the corner because your city is so affordable::
  • I look at houses occasionally too, even though we still have two homes, one we rent out, which both have to be sold before we can move.  :(  It is a really cute house though!

My thoughts exactly!!! Baltimore is ridiculously expensive! We bought a tiny 2 bedrooms condo for twice that price Crying

  • I am thinking what everyone else is thinking... can't believe the price!!! Looks very cute =) We bought a victorian as well and love it! Lots of up keep though... so it helps if you're a DIYer or you get a great deal and can put more money into it ;)

Yes  And you can hardly find a house with that much character either.
