Please do not flame me, I am not judging, only commenting. I was at church this morning (Roman Catholic) and sitting behind me is the same woman who always sits behind me. I would say she is in her mid to late thirties, and she has 4 kids, who range in age from about 2 to about 8. We see her every Sunday, and I have taken particular notice of her because she NEVER misses a Sunday, and she has all these kids, but she is always there by herself, no husband. Not that that's an issue, maybe her HH isn't in the picture any longer, maybe he's just not Catholic, who knows...my point is that I always notice her, mainly because she is the only parishioner with 4 little kids. She also dresses a bit "different". Not bizarre, just sort of...Amish? I have no idea how to explain what I mean, she dresses sort of old-fashioned, and so do the kids. Like, hair in a bun, long dresses. Now normally when I see people dressed like that, I assume it's because of their religion, but hello...she is clearly RC, and we don't have a dress code!
None of that is the point of this post, it's just background info. Anyway, like I said, she was sitting behind me today. And I notice immediately that there is a man sitting with her! This blew me away because she's never been sitting with a man before. I assume he had to be the father of these kids, because they look exactly like him. They do resemble her, but they are literally the spitting image of this man. And man and woman do not look alike at all, so I am not thinking that they are brother and sister. Anyway...none of this is remarkable so far, right? What is remarkable is that when it comes time to make peace with our neighbors, I turn around and catch my first really good glimpse of the guy. And he is wearing makeup. I'm talking BIG makeup. Bright pink blush, big eyeshadow, mascara, SHIMMERY pink lipstick. FULL. ON. MAKEUP. He is dressed like a man, in men's clothes, hair is sort of longish but still in a man's cut...but the makeup. WHAT??? Hahahaha I honestly did a double take and may have stared for a sec.
Now before you all start flaming me about not being accepting - I don't care at all what you wear. Go ahead and wear a pink flamingo costume to church, it doesn't bother me a lick. I just thought it was bizarre because the Roman Catholic church is notorious for not being the most "accepting" religion (this is one aspect of the religion that I do not believe in) and not only that, but the woman who I'm assuming has to be the mother of his children, looks like she walked straight out of 1910! I don't get it. I'm kind of hoping he's back next week!
Re: Interesting sight at church this morning...
Maybe she's Holiness and there isn't a Holiness church to go to?? I have no idea. I don't know too much about different religions (even Catholicism), but Holiness is big in the South. The women dress very modestly... long skirts, hair always pulled up in a bun, little to no make-up.
The make-up on the guy would have made me crack up. I know lots of gay guys and even THEY wouldn't be caught dead wearing make-up (well, except for the drag queen I used to know... that was the UGLIEST man/woman I'd ever seen, but he/she was super-sweet)
I live in a smaller suburb in North Texas and there is a guy that I see from time to time at Target and Market Street (a local grocery chain). He wears high heels and skirts and sundresses. He usually has a purse and always has eyeshadow and lipstick on. But still has a men's hair cut. It's not long and he doesn't wear a wig or anything. I've always just carried on about my shopping and paid no particular attention except to those with APPALLING behavior towards him. I watch children and parents alike gasp at him and make a bit of a scene. For an 8 year old I understand it's strange to see and can understand their reaction but its the parents who almost encourage this behavior by responding the same way... it disgusts me. That being said... it always makes me giggle a little on the inside and I will text HH with "our friendly neighborhood cross-dresser has made another appearance."
A couple of weeks ago, I ran into him at the butcher counter at the grocery store. The butcher knew him by name and they struck up a conversation about some herbal supplement etc etc. HE IS A REALLY NICE GUY!! And I even joined the convo. I mean... I've never judged him for his choices but it does provide some comic relief in my day, esp in the area we live in... its very suburban. Well I got to the registers and I guess he had just gone through and the lady in front of me in line and the cashier were discussing him. The cashier was really nice about him/defending him and I joined her cause. I found out that he's MARRIED (to a lady, duh.) and has 2 kids. Sometimes they all shop together apparently. And he dresses the same way then. It just makes you wonder what makes them make that choice.
And on a side note... the man has FIERCE legs! I would wear strappy high heeled sandals and sundresses if I had those legs too!
Similar to Stu... I don't think any of my gays would be caught dead wearing makeup in public either. But the guys who work for MAC wear enough for all of them so that settles that. HAHAHA!
