low/no libido from b/c

I am 22 and have been on b/c since I was about 15. It makes it so I have regular periods and makes the cramps not so unbearable. However, it has made it so I have little to no sex drive. My hubby is very understanding and doesn't want to make me do something that I am not in the mood for, but I still feel that I need to provide for his wants and needs. If I stop taking b/c I will be pretty much useless at work and home for a week out of every month. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: low/no libido from b/c

  • Go see your GYN again and see if you could switch to a lower doseage of pills. That worked for me.

Your GYN might have other suggestions as well.

    Hope is not a strategy.
  • Talk to your gyn about a different form of BC.  There are several different kinds on the market these days.

    Also, its libido, not libiTo.

Ditto this.  It is one of the not so fun side effects.  I had that problem for awhile.

  • Thank you for your suggestions. I will go talk to my doctor. And thanks for the spelling correction didn't even realize that's how I spelled it
  • Definitely see your gyn... I had the same problem and we tried all of the remedies my gyn could come up with (low estrogen BCP, testosterone, even off-label anti-depressants). The first one didn't work, the other two I reacted to badly. So if something works for you, please share it!

My problem is temporarily solved b/c we are trying to conceive, but I have horrible periods and have learned that I may also have endometriosis  (going to the doc on tues. to confirm) so I get what you're saying about the period thing. GL!

  • Good luck with trying to conveive, I wish you and your hubby the best. And I will let you know if I figure anything out.
  • Have you been off of birth control at all since you were 15 and started it?  Periods and the effects they have on you can change drastically from that young of an age to your more adult age.  When I was 14 to 16, I had horrible periods with a lot of pain and stomach irritation.  Now, I'm fairly regular, and I have almost no pain (maybe some bloating) during my periods.  If you've been on the pill consecutively since you were 15, you may want to talk to your doctor about considering stopping.

I had absolutely no libido when on even the lowest hormone levels, and it made me very distraught.  Where before starting the pills, I had an almost 'ravenous' libido, after taking the pills, it plummeted and flatlined after a year of being on them.  After about 3 years of misery, I finally decided to stop taking them.  Now, my body is finally getting back to normal and I'm loving it.

  • I didn't even think about that, I think I will try that. Thank you!
