Re: Dear Lanie

  • Indeed.

Is this about a specific thread, or just a general observation?

  • Yesterday's confessions thread. Someone said they wouldn't speak to a mom wearing a Bjorn, and it all went downhill from there. The carrier expert has BUSINESS CARDS printed with her website on it in case she encounters someone who needs information. I'm sure she's a nice person and has good intentions, but oh man.

Apparently it's really old. I didn't look at the date too closely. :-)

Love the new siggy, Linds. Yellow is Mucho's color!

  • God, I don't know anything about children. Babywearing? This is a thing? Whats makes one contraption superior to others?
  • That thread is awesome.

Almond, whatever you do, don't get a crotch dangly one.  You'll anger the crazies.

    Thanks Kristen!

  • Uh, what's wrong with the bjorn?  Not that we can use it too much anymore (at 20 lbs, Miles is way too heavy for me to be lugging him around), but he always seemed content in it.

  • I continue to marvel that people even notice how people transport their kids.   More, I'm amused that she doesn't talk to Bjorn wearers.  Are they supposed to know this stranger is not talking to them because of their choices in carriers?  Does she talk to every mother without a Bjorn?  That might be reason enough to go with the Bjorn.

And now you've figured me out, Fallin.  I use the wrong BW gear, FF, use disposable diapers, never co-slept, and let my kid cry it out, just so that I wouldn't be approached by one of these gals.  You can feel free to call CPS on me now.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, Lindsay - that is a fantastic picture!  You and MC both look beautiful!!

  • WTF is a Bjorn and why would someone give two turds if a mother used one?

Seriously, W.T.F.  Women need congratulations for the fact that they "baby wear?"  We used a Bjorn when a stroller just wasn't practical.  My H used it more than I did, therefore, he was technically in charge of baby wearing in our home.  Who gives a f*ck?

Damn crazy APers, find something better to judge.  Please and thank you.

E loved the Bjorn but I mostly wore it IN the house to be able to do laundry or whatever if he was cranky and I needed two hands.  And he loved/s the stroller.  I don't even understand having a special BW'ing group that need cards to convert people.  I never noticed or cared what other people were transporting their babies in.  To me "crotch dangling" would be actually hanging a baby BY it's crotch.  A baby's crotch is supported just fine in the Bjorn.  If you've ever seen a baby SLEEPING in one, as I have seen 100x over, it can't be like waterboarding.

I love how it "irks" people that they bring their stroller into the doc office or supermarket.  I don't know- when I first had E, I was taking so much crap around with me, the stroller was necessary. Now, I'll be heartbroken when he's done with it because I don't know where I'll put my stuff- keys, phone, water- it's easier than carrying a pocketbook.

  • I have only just realized that "crotch dangler" referred the the way the baby sits in the carrier and not where the carrier rests on the wearer's baby.

I only hate strollers at the farmers' market b/c they are in my way. I don't give a second thought to the damage that it must be doing to the baby not to be in constant contact with its mother every second.

The stroller was a pain at the gay pride parade because of the crowd, but it was also like 95 degrees that day.  What's worse?  A stroller in a crowd or dead weight glued to you by sweat?  I'll take the inconvenient stroller thanks.

And what do these people do all day if they can wear a baby for 5 hours at a time?  A kid has to be cockeyed from having it's face/cheek in their moms chest for 5 hours.  Nevermind flathead from sleeping on it's back but now you have to worry about pancake face from it facing inward for hours on end?  I don't get it.

  • I am trying to think of a time when I would have worn Ben for 5 hours. Maybe when we were in San Juan. But it was balls hot that day and there is no way that would have been comfortable for any of us. Plus you know he needed to be protected from the sun but still likes to see things.

I am getting a new Baby Hawk (kind of carrier) because the Moby at his age is ridiculous and he has outgrown the Bjorn (OMG awful parents for having one). I am most excited about being able to back carry him when we go hiking or camping or touring around Europe (would still bring stroller in this last case).

  • That's the biggest WTF for me.  5 hours???  Even with the awesomest, most AP-blessed carrier ever, I'd be the sweatiest, most broken back-est mess.  Not to mention, what baby can go 5 hours between naps?  Oh right, my bad, kid should be attached to you 24/7, asleep or awake.

But this is from someone who took her kid to the store in a non-Bjorn crotch dangler this morning and is letting her fuss/cry it out some because she's fighting a much needed nap.

  • November, you fool, they make babywearers for up to 35 pounds!  You should still be wearing that kid most of your waking life (non-waking life, you will sleep next to him).

I recently saw a C&Ped post where someone got flamed because they wanted to take their 30 lb. kid to an amusement park in a stroller and the APers went apesh!t because she ought to wear him. The whole time, walking around, in 90 degree weather.

And WTF is this? "currently, our Bali Baby Stretch. or our Storch woven. i also love our ring sling, and Angel Pack. haven't used the Mei Tai with finn yet, but loved it with DS1."  Did this person really buy FIVE different child carriers?  What thefuckingfuck_??

Who joins a GROUP of women dedicated to some child holding device?  Is this your only hobby, or do you belong to two dozen other groups, your cloth diapering group, your breastfeeding-til-age-12 group, your placenta eating group?  Do these people have maids and nannies and personal chefs and no job?

Not to mention, I feel sad for the ones whom say, "DS1 didn't like bw'ing but here's to hoping DS2 does!" WHY would you "hope" that?  I mean, they either do or they don't the same way some like to belly sleep and some like to back sleep.  It's like they're FORCING it on the kid which leads me to believe that BW'ing to this extent is WAY more for the parent than the baby.  I wouldn't force E to be worn- the kid wants to run.  But, according to them, he should be ON me 24/7.  How are they learning to walk or crawl or anything if they're being strapped to them for 5 hours at a time??

And are you dropping a deuce AND wearing the baby while doing so?  Changing tampons?

  • B likes to be worn at certain times AND only for a certain period of time. But that was before he was hella mobile. Now he just wants to go go go.

Oddly enough B likes to be worn by Joey instead of me. It has to be that the boobs get in the way, hence why I am looking forward to back wearing.

When we were in San Juan we had him in the stroller and were waiting for the trolley to come. We folded the stroller down BEFORE it came so that we could easily get on. Obviously that was rocket surgery.

  • Ugh. That conversation made me just flip. Imagine? There are at least 2 posts a week asking how you intervene with a friend who is wearing her baby in the wrong sling or (and this is bad) whose infant is using their exersaucer too much.

Kristen, I'm worried about Owen. I saw a photo of him in a bouncer. It worried me. Do you ever pick him up?

Meh I'm waiting for the lot of them to see if they're still attached when Jr isn't wear-able any more and they lose their badges because they can't breastfeed, baby wear, or cosleep anymore.

What am I saying? the kids will be 9.

  • I wish Will would have been a little interested in carriers; we like to go hiking and it was just not possible with him screaming every time we tried to put him anything. We're hoping this one will at least allow us to do that. I'm not terribly interested in wearing her for 5 hours a day or even at the mall or the zoo or whatever. I like strollers. I like having a place to put all my crap. I like not being sweaty. And Will likes facing out and seeing everything.

Lanie- I really dont know why, but reading the posts there REALLY irks the living sh*t out of me.  I just can't figure out why I care.  I read a few posts then I have to shut the window.  It's too much for me.

It annoys me because it's so self-righteous and "this is the only way you can be a good mom". I do like going there for a laugh though. But it is sad that that is my only interest in the board since I would love to actually talk with other people who are AP inclined. But, just like the natural birth board it's full of crazies.

  • I love Lanie and when she riles them up. It's fan-freaking-tabulous

And I am so freaking tired of "I don't care what other mother's do, as long as they've done their research" Um. Riiight. 1.) yes, you do care. and 2.) honestly, who does "research" on every little thing??

yes, we all want the best for the our spawn, but I don't have the time/desire/energy to research (aka google) every little thing to do with my kid. The extent of my research is reading reviews on BRU or amazon.

Freaking ridiculous. That post is WHY I despise the f'ing bump APers and their little cult over there. They're asinine
