Wedding RSVP vent

I really dislike online RSVP-ing for weddings. It seems very impersonal and not very "nice" to me. If I cannot attend, I like to write a personal letter to include in the RSVP and online, you can't do that. Actually, both online RSVP forms we have to do are only for YES so I have to email the bride or track her down on FB (if I don't know her well enough for her email info) and send a well wishes message so they don't think we just blew them off.

I know it saves on stamps, but if you go through the trouble of having beautiful invites done on nice stationary then why not just slap a mailed in RSVP in the envelope as well? It seems so much more proper.

Just my $0.02.

Re: Wedding RSVP vent

  • I agree! I also just got an invite for a wedding that's happening a month from Thursday, isn't that a little late since the wedding is taking place in Colorado? (And they didn't do STDs) It's for one of Dh's friends so I don't know if he was responsible for mailing his invites and just procrastinated or what, but I'm annoyed..
  • I totally agree with you.  I'm pretty environmentally friendly, but for some reason it bugs me not to have the pretty invitation and RSVP (I got an electronic-only invite this year).  I've always liked old-fashioned letters, cards, and the like though.  Seems so much more personal and intimate, to sit down and write something by hand.
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • I haven't had this happen to me yet, but I agree with your feelings on it.
  • I have never received an invitation with an online RSVP!  It seems really strange to me.
  • Wait, people actually ask you to RSVP online? That is the tackiest thing I have heard in a long time. So yes I agree with you haha.

Seriously, I was just about to write that myself.... I mean, DH and I always kidded about sending out an Evite for the wedding, but seriously... people are actually DOING that?!  So tacky...

  • Yes, so you get a beautiful stationary invite with 1 insert that says "Please RSVP at www.brideandgroom.brides.com

Then you go to the website and it's their wedding website and it has their registry, their story, their pix, bridal party info, hotel info, etc. Then RSVP. Then you click on that and enter your names if you are going.

It's so weird to me. I said to DH, "Why spend all this money on beautiful stationary and have people RSVP online, that is so tacky!" but he said I was being judgemental, so I decided to vent here lol.
