Hey ladies! I got back from Vegas last weekend and since then I have been pretty much living in a cave! Two of my co-workers are away on holidays and I have been covering for them which has been a PITA. Anyway Vegas was incredible, my Uncle (who is only 32) pulled out all the stops. His connections are impressive and we pretty much got in everywhere VIP and didn't pay for food or drinks our whole trip! Was not expecting his extreme hospitality, but it was definitely appreciated!
With that being said, my Vegas trip had a dual purpose. It was nice to get away with a girlfriend for a few days, but I was also going there to meet with my Uncle. DH and I have been discussing a move lately during his off-season for these reasons:
1) We have no family and very few friends in Edmonton. It takes us 7 hours + on a plane to get to New England and 4+ hours on a plane to get to Toronto. It's also super expensive for my family to travel here to visit us.
2) Due to budget constraints at the University I work for, my job has changed a lot. I don't necessarily like what I am doing right now.
3) We would not be able to afford to buy a house in Edmonton anytime soon. The real state market here is in a bubble, and you cannot find a single family home (detached) for less than $500K in a decent neighborhood.
So after meeting with my Uncle, he offered me my dream job (no joke). He just started a new company and it is doing really well. He has offered me a consulting position where I would be doing some event planning, promotions, marketing/project management, concierge service to clients etc. Basically everything I enjoy and have experience doing!
DH and I have decided to move to Vegas in January once football is over. I have a lot of family in the area and it would be cheaper for my NH family to visit. The housing market is in the dumps so we could easily afford to buy a house right away. The opportunity to work with my Uncle is huge and would open up a lot of doors for my career which has been on the back-burner thanks to football. I will be staying in Vegas when DH comes back to Edmonton for the football season, I'll come up visit once a month. This sounds tough, which it will be, but a lot of CFL families do the distance thing. We do plan on moving back to Toronto before we have kids, so this stint in Vegas would be for about 5 years or less. We still have a lot to work out, but it looks like a big move back to the States is in our future! Our family doesn't know yet, so please keep it quiet on FB! I am really excited!
Enough about me, how are you girls doing? What are your plans for the weekend?
Re: A Big Decision (Long) & TGIF
Wow, wow, wow!! That's so awesome!! Congrats on the job offer and the opportunities that await you!! It sucks that you'll have to be away from DH during the season, but it sounds like you are going into it with the right mindset!
I don't know that anyone's weekend plans can top that! I'm heading over to one of the other barrier islands to do give another lecture and do some more research stuff.
I'm doing a read and run. My MIL is picking me up for a lunch date!
Wow! That's a ton of excitement. I'll respond when I get home.
Wow! What big plans that are falling into place for you! That is exciting!
For the weekend, I am going early tomorrow to Branson (just a couple hours away) for a little girls night getaway with some sorority sisters. I am excited! We lived in Branson for a while, so I have some connections so we are getting a condo for cheap and seeing a show for free. Plus lots of shopping, eating and laughing. I'm so excited!
Wow! That is so exciting! Congratulations and good luck on your move.
We are going to a wedding this weekend, one of my cousins is getting married. Sunday we will probably just chill out and relax!
GO! St. Louis Half Marathon-2:32:13
Omaha Half Marathon 9.23.12
Wow that is an exciting opportunity! If you and DH are OK with being away from each other during the season then I say go for it!
My weekend plans consist of NOTHING!! It has been raining like crazy around here but DH and I may venture out for dinner or just a night on the town. I need-- I mean BABY needs (lol)-- a Red Robin fix soon so I'm going to see if I can talk him into going there tonight or tomorrow
Oh, wow! Congrats to you! That's awesome!
This weekend... I bailed on a party tonight 'cause I haven't felt good today. Tomorrow I have a bridal shower, and Sunday -- I'm sure we'll end up doing something!
Emily, congrats! That is absolutely amazing! And I'm sure you guys will be fine through the long distance portion of it. It's rough, but I'm positive you two are going to be fine!
And last night we ended up having a party at our house. It got pretty awesome actually! We played bullsh*t and captain d*ckhead and got a nice buzz going on. We had several of our friends over, so that was a housewarming party, so to say.
Today, DH is working on the ambulance again down on the beach to help with the oil spill clean up. He'll be gone until tomorrow morning.
Tomorrow, we are going tubing with some friends of ours to celebrate my birthday!
Vegas will be exciting. Especially since it sounds like the job opportunity will be something you will enjoy much more than where you are now. Congrats! (And selfishly, now there's a Marchie that's less than a 5 hour plane ride!)
This weekend... was supposed to be a baby shower, fix the bathroom leaking shower and fish tank maintenance. I attended the baby shower, but came home to H napping, which is what he was doing when I left 4 hours prior! Now he's out fishing. I asked about the fish tank and shower and ... "well, fishing sounds better." grrrr.
I was really hoping he's do the fish tank so that we can put more fish in next weekend. We are down to two fish in a 150-gallon tank, so it looks puney. And the shower... much longer and we'll have to replace the floor!
At least he's having some fun too.
Best of luck Em! Do you have any idea on when you'd be moving?
This weekend my parents were still here. Saturday we just watched movies all day and then had our neighbors over for MH's birthday
Yesterday was Greg's birthday. I asked him what he wanted to do and he said dig trenches to run the gutters into the woods... so that's how we spent our lovely afternoon. I wanted to take him out to dinner but we were so exhausted so we brought take-out in, sushi (yum). Then we went out for ice cream with our neighbors.
Thanks for the kind words of encouragement! We are planning on moving in January, once the football season ends and we get through the Holidays!
Spcecadet- I will be very close to California, we will definitely have to plan a GTG!
