Dr. AFSCB: Tell me about your pee

I got a bunch of labwork done this weekend and my dr's office has this online chart system so I was able to see the results this morning and one was SUPER high.

I get my microalbumin in my pee tested, which is essentially the amount of protein spilling. You're not supposed to have any because the kidneys filter it.

My result was 14.8 mg/dl. It says it should be 0-1.8 mg/dl. Which means I have kidney damage/disease or am in the early stages of kidney failure.

HOWEVER, when I checked my chart for a previous result, that one was reported in mcg/dl and should have been under 20 mg/dl. This leads me to believe that whoever inputted the info used the wrong units.

So, does anyone know the standard unit of measurement for microalbumin? Have any of you pregnant ladies had this done (I think they check that sort of thing) and know off the top of your head what units yours was in? I have a call into the doctor and I'm fairly sure it's just an error but I'm also freaking out and looking for info to make myself feel better.

EDIT: Uh where are my line breaks? html? hrm.

Re: Dr. AFSCB: Tell me about your pee

  • hrm.  High protein in pregnancy pee means pre-eclampsia or kidney distress from overwork from the fetus.

mine gets checked 1X/month (well, starting this month, 2X) but it's always been okay so I never ask for the result.  I actually go in tomorrow and I'll try to remember to ask what they've been so maybe you could get some baselines.

choose life, Moosley!  I hope your kidneys are okay!

  • Thanks, Tasty! I'm hoping I hear from my doctor yesterday, but just in case I don't, that would be really sweet of you :)
