Obama, taxes, and the broke USA

if Obama wins, and it's looking like he probably will, i seriously doubt Obama is going to be able to lower taxes for those under 250k, as he's talking about doing.  so what do you think will happen?  will the Bush tax cuts just be repealed?  will we go back to Clinton era taxes, or do you think we will actually go higher than the Clinton era taxes?

just curious what your opinions are.

Re: Obama, taxes, and the broke USA

  • I doubt either McCain or Obama is going to be able to lower taxes. Practically, I'm not sure how I think it will play out, but I don't see either of them being able to deliver on their lower taxes pledges.

    Ditto this.

I dont see either of them raising taxes on the middle class, but I dont see them lowering them either.

  • Every "expert" opinion I've read says our taxes are going up no matter what.

  • I agree that neither will be able to lower taxes until this market freefall gets under control.  My question is--whose supporters will be more angered by it and will it hurt them in their reelection chances?  I personally feel that Obama's big stance lately is helping the middle class w/ lower taxes.  If he can not, I don't see him having much chance in 2012.  McCain's raising taxes (or at least not cutting the current rates) could be seen as being fiscally responsible so it is more of a 50/50 shot, imo.

  • Honestly, I have no idea, but I can't imagine taxes going down, or even staying the same.  I think everyone's going to see an increase, if not in the AGI rate, then in a reduction in itemizations or some other sneaky IRS way.  All I know is I will never pay single digit % in federal taxes again, but it was nice to see for one year...

Wow, how did you do that? My husband is military and we didn't even do that the year he was deployed!
