Do you worry about chemicals leaching out of the plastic? I try to avoid plastic as much as possible, but use freezer bags and breastmilk storage bags.
Re: Do you use freezer bags?
I try to avoid freezer bags too. I think the only thing I use them for a lot now is freezing pesto. Freezing pesto in jars takes up too much space and is expensive, and they take a lot longer to thaw. I do worry about chemicals leaching out of the plastic, but I use plastic much, much less than the average person so I hope I'm ahead of the game. I'm not sure what else you could freeze breastmilk in, and I'm sure breastmilk in plastic bags is much much better than formula.
Personally, I think the big leaching issue is when you heat (i.e., microwave) food in plastic. Have you ever watched the plastic film on your TV dinner melt into the food? Now THAT really worries me.
I agree. We try to use pyrex to freeze things in but that isn't practical for some things (like 10 chickens) so we have to use them. Could you freeze breastmilk in pyrex or those non-bpa storage containers?
