Cristina

Hey - I looked at VPI and came to the same conclusion. It looked crappy. :)

We are looking at ASPCA Pet Health Insurance. They have 4 different options and will pay 80% of whats covered in the plan (example, our xrays were 170 so they would have paid for 136. I'm guessing this is common, but they actually reimburse you... so that seems like it might be a pain. I haven't looked at Pets Best yet, I'll look into that too!

She's doing okay.

The first trip was because of her severe allergic reaction to her vaccines.

The second was from lots and lots of vomiting. I let my inlaws dogsit her so that I could get stuff done. So they came over to play with her, walk her, and take her out. She managed to get a hold of a dead mouse so the vets thought she had a bone lodged in her or something. The vets didn't quite figure out what was wrong, but she's on some meds and a chicken/rice diet for the next week. (Good thing we spent $300 for them to say, hmmm, I don't know.)

Anyways, we are def leaning towards insurance after these last 3 weeks! I'll let you know my experience with Pets Best or ASPCA.

Re: Cristina

  • One thing I notice between the two is that Pets Best has a $100 per incident deductible. ASPCA has a $100 per year deductible (might change depending on plan).

  • OH MY!  Poor thing!  Foley threw up 2 mice the other day, but they were our new kitty's (ie: not real).

The ladies over on the pets board highly reccomend either actually.  I think the ASPCA had a lot more that they wouldn't cover in terms of the breed and predisposed things, but still got good feedback.

Someone did tell me that I should just take the 20-30 a month I was spending and put it in a savings account for the dog emergencies. Because assuming you have no emergencies and you just stick to the regular checkups... i am paying out $300 a year and only able to get $125ish back in claims.

So who knows... I hope your poor little pup has no more medical issues!!  I saw the pics on facebook... SOOOO adorable!!!

  • Thanks for the input!

We were thinking about just getting it for her first year and then lowering the plan or cancelling completely. (Only because one plan is 300 a year and the other is 500... so far they would have pretty much paid for them selves by now).

    I'll keep researching.  :)
