Bridal Shower games

I personally don't want to do games but some of the other bridesmaids do.

Does anyone have any games that are actually fun and not really corny? One bridesmaid wanted to do pass a candy bar around and when you stop have cake be dispensed- yeah something weird like that. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Bridal Shower games

  • At mine we kind of played a "newly wed game" My MOH had a list of questions that she asked my fiance prior to the shower like:

"What is your favorite dish she cooks?"

"What is her most commonly used phrase?"

    "Where was your first kiss?"

And then at the shower she reads the questions aloud and I write the answer on a mini white board and show the guests, she then reads fiance's answer and see if we match! It was fun!

  • They had this game at my bridal shower I'd never seen before, everyone had a blast! Have the bride to be leave the room and hand out cards to everyone with the name of an animal written on it (cow, chicken, dog, donkey, etc) and have everyone make the noise of that animal to see who they're paired with (I was outside and it sounded like a friggin zoo inside, haha!!). Give each group a roll of toilet paper and have them make and dress one of the people in the group as a bride, using the toilet paper. OMG they looked hilarious! Some dresses were short, some had trains, some made headpieces...awesome game.

There was also another game while I was out of the room (before the TP game, hehe), they had to answer questions about what I was wearing that day...name 2 colors, is she wearing any jewelry, is her engagement ring gold or white gold, how tall is the bride, how did the bride and groom meet, etc.

  • Here's the list of ones I've played/seen played recently:

Don't Say "Wedding" (which I've also seen played as Don't Say "Bride's Name" or "Groom's Name") - Give everyone a pin or a necklace; if you hear someone else saying the taboo word, you get to take their pin/necklace. Whoever has the most at the end wins. This one tends to be a big crowd pleaser since you can play throughout the entire shower and you don't really have to do anything besides listen during conversations.

"Mystery Box" Game -- something was passed around the room in a box and whenever it stopped, the person who was left with the box had to open it and wear it. It was a Naughty & Nice themed shower, so everyone expected it to be "naughty" but it was actually a rose corsage (something "nice)

Matching Worksheet -- I'm a literature major and a pop culture junkie, so this game was fun for me to play at my shower. On one side we had a list of male characters (from Marshall Erikson to Rhett Butler to Edward Cullen to Simba) and on the other side the matching female characters (Lily Aldrin, Scarlet O'Hara, Bella Swan, Nala), but obviously in a different order. The goal was to match up the pairs. It was a nice game to play while eating.

The zoo noise one, how does it involve the bride though?

I have a bad taste in my mouth from that one though, way back in high school that was a mini-hazing thing for when we were freshman joinging the field hockey team...after it rained we were each given an animal to make the noise, then we had to crawl around in the mud to find our mate all while they are throwing shaving cream in our faces...so, umm that one would kinda freak me out.

  • Oh hazing, the joys!
  • Oops, sorta important huh? LOL, the brides comes back in a picks which dress is the best. The animal noises are just for fun to pick the groups at random, I thought it was hilarious! image

  • I don't know if I'd like to e sent out of the room at my shower but, to each his own. I also am not a fan of games either but again, to each his own.

I've done the TP bride thing at other's showers and it was fun. Maybe it's a geographic thing but showers where I live rarely entail games.

There's also the thing where on of the BMs writes down things the bride says during the gift opening and then reads them out loud afterwards. That can be really funny depending on what gifts are commented on.

If you want something that's not too involved and can be done casually throughout the day, you can put a jar on each table and have a specific word that when someone says it,they have to throw a coin into the jar, the money collected at the end goes to the bride.

  • At a recent one I helped host we did a wine tasting where all the wines had some relation to the bride... favorite type, wine from her home state, etc.  We asked a question at each station.

We also played a family feud type game with questions relating to weddings.  It was fun but would only work for a smaller group.  (We had about 10 of us.)

At mine I had no games because I'm not a big game fan.  Did the other bridesmaids ask the bride what she wants?  To me, that would be important.  Some like games, some don't.  You should cater to the bride-to-be!

  • Bridal bingo-have everyone fill out blank bingo cards/sheets with what they think the btb will get.  This way you don't have to devote extra time to a game b/c it moves right along with the btb opening her gifts.

  • There was a game at my bridal shower where someone had gone to DH beforehand and asked him 20 questions (what is your dream car, shoe size, etc...), and then at my shower they had a bag of bazooka bubble gum, and for every question that I answered wrong, I had to eat another piece of bubble gum.  I could hardly answer any questions by the end because I had 5 pieces of bubble gum in my mouth, but it was fun.
  • I played an icebreaker game where everyone had someone's name pinned to their back and they had to go around the room to find their pair, asking yes or no questions.  The couples were Homer and Marge Simpson, Beyonce and Jay-Z, Hilary and Bill Clinton, and other easy pop-culture people like that.  It's a fun game to get people talking if everyone does not know each other.

I also liked the toilet paper bridal gown game.

This is what my BMs did for my shower and I loved it and so did the crowd.  I had a larger one like 60ish people so thats all we did and gave away mini rose plant centerpieces and other neat doorprizes-ish things

Nicolle's book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)

  • This was done at my bachelorette, not my shower, but it could work depending on how wild and crazy the people at the shower are (my family and friends are wild). Everyone was handed out a piece of paper with numbers labeled 1-7 and then on the dining room table they had pictures of men without their shirts on and their faces covered up (famous men) and then had everyone guess who they were. At the end they had the bonus which was my DH with his shirt off and face covered. This only works if the groom is like my DH and not shy about showing his chest, but it was a great game and everyone loved it.
