Im an animal lover but ....

My in-laws asked if we could watch my SIL's maltese when they go on their honeymoon after their wedding in a week. My in-laws can't watch him because they are taking advantage of being daughter free after 29 years so they are also taking a trip for a few days. So, we get stuck watching the little white hyper ball of fur. It kind of sucks because I know that my Australian Shepherd wants nothing to do with this dog and I'm pretty sure my german shepherd pup is going to give him a run for his money. So, I get the lovely job of cleaning up after 3 dogs....keeping them separated....taking this untrained mess out to do his business and lets just say, I'm not happy.

I'm already bitter towards my SIL for many reasons and one of them is also because although she is 29 and still having her parents pay for her college (after being in for roughly 8 years with no bachelors degree anywhere in sight), her 3 yr. child, and her wedding, and refusing to get any sort of job to help out insisted on have this $400 dog "for her son" ( I don't know anyone who buys a purebread Maltese for a 3 yr old boy). THEN after having this dog for a year she realized how much uptake it is to keep him white, groomed, trained, and has done none of the above. Its so maddening!!!! She liked him because he was a cute puppy but now that he's work she wants nothing to do with him and I feel bad for the thing.  I'd take him but I hate small dogs and I already have 2 plus a cat.

  • If I lived closer I would say leave it in the back yard and I will come by and take it then you wouldn't have to worry about it anymore. Would serve that evil SIL right!
  • You're nicer than me! I'd recommend a local dog boarding facility. I wouldn't want to make anyone watch my dog when I go out of town, we just board her! It's pricey, but it has to be done...

  • She sounds like she needs to grow up a little bit. Really, WHAT person just gets a dog without realizing- hey-this is a living animal, he probably needs to eat and poop and stuff. Having worked my own way through college, I also harbor a secret loathing for people whose parents just pay it for them. But really, I should just wish you luck and not support your negative feelings for SIL. Vent all you want while they're on vaca!!

    Steph's SIL. And my SIL.

To be fair to my SIL, she did acclimate nicely after the first few weeks and now seems to be doing a great job at being a dog mom, but the first couple of months were a HUGE shock to her. I'm hoping that she doesn't decide that her hyper black-lab-mix 2-year-old dog is too much trouble when she moves again (I don't think she has any idea how hard it can be to find rentals that will let you have a big dog).
