Vacation ideas needed

Where's your favorite vacation spot, and what makes it great?

DH and I have never taken a vacation where it's just been the two of us.  Next fall I told him that's what I want to do, so naturally now I'm in charge of coming up with where to go.  We're open to traveling outside the US so the world is our playground!  His only rules - needs to be warm and no roller coasters.

Thanks!

  • I really loved Cancun. First of all, it's absolutely gorgeous - stunning even. Second, the people there are really friendly. Of course there are always the tourist traps and people who are "pressure sellers" on the streets, but every place we went the staff at that location were incredibly friendly, helpful, & gracious. Third, gorgeous beaches & yummy drinks. Fourth, you can see some amazing things in Cancun and surrounding areas. Here are some examples:

Xcaret- I didn't actually go here but we will when we go back. some of our friends went & said it was amazing.

Isla Mujeres - there is a "booze cruise" to the island, but you don't have to drink if you don't want to. it's really just a fun little boat trip.

    Chichen Itza

Tulum - there are various tours that go to Chichen Itza & Tulum

    Coco Bongo

    Hidden Worlds

  • I just wanted to add that my favorite vacation destination is actually Paris, but I don't know if that's the kind of location you're looking for. Cancun is a very, very, very close second. Followed by Scotland, but Scotland isn't exactly warm... ever.
  • I'm still in love with Europe after the tour I did with some friends in October '08.  Everywhere we went at that time had beautiful fall weather - jacket weather at worst, even in London - but it's probably not the kind of warm you are talking.

That said, Greece is what comes to mind.  It's further south so I think it would be warmer still, and it's full of beautiful islands.  I haven't been there (yet!) but it's one of my must-see places the next time I can hop the pond.

If you wanta go out of the US, I'd so say Europe. I can't even been to explain how amazing it is over there. The cool thing about when we went there was we got all of the touristy things, saw amazing/beautiful places, romantic places and then partied our a$$es off. Got a little bit of everything; hence why were are going back next month. Have fun making your decision =)

  • My favorite place so far has been St. Lucia, but I know that you already did the cruise for your wedding so I'm not sure if you wanted to do the Caribbean again.  St. Lucia is simply gorgeous, but I may be partial since that's where we got engaged.  Also, me and DH like relaxing, beach vacations as opposed to really active ones like Europe.
  • I of course am going to say Aruba....but honestly, not just b/c we got married there, we loved it there anyway even before we decided to get married there!

We've been addicted since our first trip & have had the pleasure of addicting plenty of our friends & family as well!

    definitely worth checking out! Smile

  • We also love warm and no roller coasters :-) My favorite island locations so far have been the BI Hawaii, and Dominica of the Caribbean. Both great for people who like mountains and the beach.

We also just went to Peru - but it was the opposite of relaxing and I'm not sure how much of an adventure you're looking for.

  • Depending on what you guys wanna do...if you wanna be on the go sightseeing or you just wanna relax on one spot.

If you wanna go sightseeing..Europe! Italy is gorgeous my favorite cities where Florence, Venice & Rome...also the Tuscan area and the Amalfi coast are out of this world. I also liked Spain, the Greek Isles and Istanbul a lot.

If we are talking laid back places that are warmer, then St. Lucia, Tortola & Virgin Gorda are my favorite Caribbean islands.

  • Belize. Hands down.  Most BEAUTIFUL and relaxing place I've ever been!  It was a stop on a cruise and I swore I'd make it back before I die for a longer trip.  Can't wait!

Oahu was amazing, but not quite so relaxing.  Lots to do, and the smell in the air is indescribable.

Of course, we ADORE Savannah because it's so laid back and has all the beautiful squares/gardens, the history, the haunted reputation, and River Street!
