Hey ladies,

Well, I think it went pretty well. It's so hard to say. I always feel like such a tool when I'm interviewing - I feel like I either come off as too conceited or like a total dork, but then both are somewhat necessary when you're "selling yourself" for the position.

They're doing first rounds of interviews this week and hope to notify candidates they'd like back for a second interview next week sometime.

My new shoes gave me hideous blisters Guess I'll be wearing something different to my other interview (Monday, for a different campus).

Glad to hear it went well! I had the exact same thoughts after mine. When anyone asks how it went, it's like, "Errr.... ok I guess?" I always feel like I blackout and details only start to form later.

Was this the interview for the place you really want?

Before going on the interviews, I would've said the job I'm interviewing for on Monday would be my "preference." However, I REALLY liked the people that I met with, the office environment in general, AND the full job description (they only post partials -- there were some very cool aspects to the job that I would like doing/be good at doing). So now I don't know. I feel like I won't be able to say which I want more/would be better at until I go to the other interview and meet those people as well.

Of course I just realized in two of the Thank You notes I just sent to the panel members, I called the position by the wrong title. ::facepalm::

Maybe that was a little divine intervention? Or maybe I just needed to be THAT MUCH MORE NERVOUS for Monday?!? Ugh.

Ah, the thank you notes! This whole concept is pretty new to me. They never mentioned them in law school career counseling sessions. I'm thinking I should send one for last Thursday's interview. I have a 4 person panel, 3 division chiefs and a 1st assistant (second in command in the office). I was thinking of just sending to the 1st assistant, as he probably has the most say in the hiring. WWYD? Did you send emails or paper notes?

I sent e-mails since the turnaround time is so quick (they told me they hoped to get through first round by this week and start scheduling second interviews right away).

I usually send them to everyone at the interview, but I tailor them to each person. For example, you might write a shorter note to the division chiefs about how nice it was to meet them and thanking them for being present, and then write a slightly longer (by longer, I mean one or two more sentences) to the first assistant and add some more pointed phrases like "I look forward to hearing from you about this position" (if you think he's the contact/decision maker).

Thanks. Looks like I'll be sending emails on my morning break!

They also planned to finish interviewing (first round at least) this week. As of Thursday, they weren't sure if they were doing callbacks with the head honcho or not.

See, I never have, either. I did send a thank you note to the division chief who I think helped get me the interview (I asked her advice on how to get my app noticed) after I was invited in for an interview. She also seemed to be the point person in my interview (not sure if it's because she got me the interview or if because her division was hiring or if she was just the most take-charge person in the interview). I kind of feel like another thank you to her might be overkill.

A career counselor in college highly lauded thank you notes for interviews and said that, while she had sent thank you notes for jobs she had not gotten, she always received praise on her first day of work for her thank you notes at the jobs she did get.

So, it won't get you a job, but it will certainly be noticed.

Strange...I didn't realize sending thank you notes put me in the minority. I always send them. To top it off, I had an old boss actually mention my thank you note when they called to hire me. Never mind, no one else send them. Apparently it makes me stand out more Wink

Ok, I sent one to the first assistant. My goal IS to stand out and get noticed, so hopefully that little reminder mid-way through their major interviewing week will help.

You're definitely not in the minority. I have ALWAYS sent a thank you note, regardless of whether I felt afterward that I wanted the job or not. I just feel like it's a way *not* to burn bridges, and it's just proper etiquette.

(It's worth mentioning that I only sent TYs when it came to career/teaching jobs - not part time or childcare gigs I did back in college.)
