Heard from the doc's office
The nurse claims that my protein level is correct. However, I really felt like she was blowing me off. She kept saying "They must have changed the way they do it" and yelling at me to take better care of myself. I have an appointment with my doctor next Thurs and if she won't listen to me, I'll ask for the test to be run again.

Re: Heard from the doc's office
It sounds like your doctor's office is filled with dismissive jerkwads.
Good luck with your appointment next week! Definitely push them if they aren't paying attention.
Well that's not very helpful. Sorry Moo.
So they have nothing that you can do now to make things better? And you have to wait a week to be seen? Are there any potential issues in having the high protein for a week untreated?
I think this means you should combat your high protein by eating nothing but carbs for the next week. Donuts for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!
I'm sorry the nurse was a meanie.

Yikes. Someone needs to send that nurse a Selfish Bitchcake.
Hope your kidneys are cool, and I agree with Cali. It's time for cake and bread and stuff.
The nerve!

I'm really discouraged because normally this practice is wonderful and helpful. I haven't been back there in awhile because my old insurance didn't cover them, and I've been fighting for a year to get back into that practice. Now I'm worried that it was all for nothing if this is how it's going so far.
The numbers aren't good, but some people on the diabetes forums have told me that their numbers have come back in the thousands sometimes (mine, if it's correct, was 148) so i'm holding on to that.
Ugh. I'm definitely going to mention the nurse's attitude to my doctor.

I'm not at Joslin. I actually don't have too high an opinion of Joslin's operation style.
She was suitably freaked out, but at least reassured me that, if the number is correct, we're not talking failure, merely damage that can hopefully be halted or reversed with ACE inhibitors. Obviously I'd prefer no damage whatsoever, but it's not as dire as the internets initially lead me to believe.
I trust their judgment on other things, I just didn't like her attitude. Fortunately I normally deal with my doctor's wonderfully compassionate PA (each one has a PA they work with so you generally work with the same people every time) but she's out of the office so it was just lousy timing.
