Decorate my bathroom (Halp me SB!)

This can be for SB or anyone who feels like taking a crack at it. I have this shower curtain and my accessories are the solid yellow and green. I've never felt the need to hang art in the bathroom but this one feels like it needs it. What would you put up? I feel like the shower curtain is so busy that it rules out a lot of wall decor. I was thinking of getting some simple scrapbook paper (maybe yellow or green polka dots or stripes or something) and matting/framing it in square frames, but I am open to other ideas.

Re: Decorate my bathroom (Halp me SB!)

  • I agree.  Since it is so busy, I think you should keep the wall art very graphic and simple.  I don't think a pattern would work very well (it would contrast with the vine-y pattern of the curtain).

Perhaps some geometric color blocks in greens and yellows?

  • Might I suggest a Charmin bear motif?

  • Maybe I should take a page from HGTV and make my own wall art! They seem to love doing that. Perhaps a budding AFSCB child artist would sell me something on the cheap?

Yes. I'm seeing it now! A border of conga-lining bears with TP stuck to their butts.

  • I love that shower curtain.  Since it's so bold, I agree that you want something simpler.

I think framing scrapbook paper is a great idea.  Or even getting some fabric and stretching it over a canvas.  You can do it with cheap canvases from Michael's, or I think Ikea sells some sort of fabric stretchers.

I think white frames would look really great if you do anything framed.  Are the walls white?

  • I'm pretty sure you have to get one of those "Keep Calm And Carry On" things if you want to be cool.  You do want to be cool, don't you?

  • The walls are an offwhite with a white trim, so I was also thinking white frames/mats.

Or maybe I can get some word art! Like "Always Kiss Me Before You Pee" or "Be A Sweetie, Wipe The Seaty" or something.

Um, SOME of us still happen to love those, even though they're cliche and too popular...

  • do you think you could draw the flowers (or really just an outline of one of the flowers) on the curtain?  If so, then I would buy four small square canvases, and draw an outline of one of the flowers from the curtain in a random place on each canvas, then tape that part of the canvas off so it stays white, and paint two canvases yellow, and two green, and hang them in a foursome.

  • You could do what my parents do, and hang a framed Magic Eye poster from 1993.

Or you could get a poster of this.  It matches the bathroom theme!

  • Well at first I was all like "Boxer is a GENIUS!" but now I see HT is truly the one with an eye for decor. Magic Eye over the toilet and a Chris Meloni in the shower mural it is!

  • I like boxer's idea and really like that shower curtain.  Although I recently painted my bathroom I'm not crazy about it so I may steal this idea.

  • Steal away! I instantly fell in love with the shower curtain, even though I walked in dead set on green and brown. Target also has accessories that match it perfectly and are pretty cheap. I think the hand towels were $3 and the bath towels were $5. The toothbrush holder and stuff is actually in their "dorm" collection but it's simple enough. The colors I got were "avocado" and "pineapple" and they're an exact match, which made me so excited.

  • Wallpaper samples are also good for framing and may have more options than scrapbooking paper. We used some mid-century repros for the nursery, and at $1 each, super cheap.

  • Oooh. Where does one get wallpaper samples. And, while I'm at it, where does one get square white frames?

  • May I suggest a framed black and white photo of you sitting on the toilet, reading a book. It's modern, edgy, and adorable all at the same time!

Graham and Brown, ferm living (although most are probably too busy to go with your curtain), just google wallpaper and most sites will send you samples for dirt cheap.

    For frames, Ikea, dude.

  • We got ours at http://www.bradbury.com/ but if you google retro wallpaper, I'm sure any of those will send you a sample.

Nevermind, though.  Christin wins Design Star.
