Has this been discussed?

Perez Hilton today told me that Forever 21

1.  Sells Maternity clothes?  WTF?  Isn't this store geared to a teenaged audience?

2.  Sells plus-sized clothing called "Expanded Sizes" that start at size 12.  Anything over a 10 is considered "plus-sized".

  • Forever 21 can eat a d.

  • Has anyone else had their local Forever 21 rebranded as XXI Forever?

  • I hadn't heard about 1 but 2 makes sense as I recently went into a Forever 21 to get clothes for an 80's night and there was nothing in size 12 at all.  My city is so ghetto we have a Forever 21 as one of our anchors in the mall now.

  • I bet I'm probably too fat to even fit in their maternity clothes.

  • What would plus sizes usually start at?

  • Forever 21 is rolling out their maternity line first in Texas, California, and Arizona. States that have high teen pregnancy rates. And also Utah...because Mormons get pregnant young?

  • Forever 21 puts bible verses on the bottoms of their bags.

I think 14 (and wikipedia confirms).  Even Bananna Republic and Ann Taylor have 12s and sometimes 14s..

Hmmm...then I wonder how Mississippi missed the cut.

Nevermind the fact that not a single item of clothing sold by Forever 21 would actually meet LDS modesty requirements.  Bizarre.

DUDE. I was in SLC over 4th of July weekend and it was nuts. They had a black panel over Rolling Stone as though it were Playboy. I felt like such a whore being in Temple Square in denim capris.

  • Not that I pay much mind but I think all the stores here are called XXI Forever.

Yeah, Utah is the one I'm not really getting.

  •  They bought out a few Mernvyn's and Gottschalks leases. The guy that owns the company is Korean and apparently knows what he is doing because they sell tons of clothes.

I didn't know about the maternity clothes which creeps me out a bit.I think since Forever 21 is a juniors store it make sense that their extended sizes are 12s and up. Might not be industry stand but for their store it is.

I work in retail property managament and they are currently remodeling our old Gottschalks into a giant Forever 21 and girls in this town can't wait.

  • fat trashy teens need clothes as well!

I started wearing plus size when I was a 14. I would pay someone to wear a 14 now.

  • It's not aimed at teens as much as 30-50 year olds desperate to be 21 as far as I can tell.

Agreed. Hence the "Forever" before the 21. I just think of Amy Poehler in Mean Girls.

  • 14 is plus size?  It seems to me to be around average size?  I had no idea.  I thought plus sizes started at 20.
    image
  • Plus sizes usually start at 18.  In most department stores, misses go up to 16.  In a few smaller stores, they only go up to 14.  In some of the teenager stores, that's where the cut off is 10 or 12.
