Bit awkward situation

DH's former cw moved to CA for a job almost a year ago. They've kept in touch, and we had lunch w/T when we were out there last month. DH mentioned to T that DH's uncle we were staying w/has an engineering biz and needed a project mgr, they had all this work, uncle overwhelmed managing it all himself. DH's thinking is that moving out to CA to work for his uncle might be a path for us, but it's just an idea at this point.

So today DH gets an email from T w/his resume attached, basically saying hey B, you mentioned your uncle might need someone as a mgr, can you send him my resume and put in a good word for me?

I don't know how I feel about this.

Re: Bit awkward situation

  • I do not see anything wrong with it, did your DH mention to former co-worker that he might be interested in moving out there to work with his uncle??  if not then I again don't see anything weird about former co-worker doing that, I mean he already lives out there and if your DH only mentioned his uncle was looking for a project manager then I don't see the big deal

but i guess if your DH mentioned to former co-worker that his uncle was looking for a project manager and was himself considering moving out there to take the job, then yes, kind of annoying

  • I agree with Jill. I don't think it's weird or anything maybe the CW thought DH was mentioning it to him as a suggestion ... unless of course your DH had clearly stated it was an option for himself.

  • Maybe I'm just too close to the situation. T knows how the company is here, and how ridiculous/stressful this time of year is. DH did talk jokingly about moving out there and working for his uncle during our lunch w/T, but it's not going anywhere right now. He even said something about it last night when he was telling me about the email.

It's hard to say whether we'd pick up and move out there since we don't know what DH's job situation is still. Supposedly he's going to get a formal offer for his old boss's job "soon" (whatever soon means). But he's not overly happy at the company, it's a decent job but crazy hours (5:30-3, but getting home at 5 the past few months, plus 2 Sat. on, 1 off). He's serving as interim manager right now, waiting for the actual job offer.

Maybe I just think that T is trying to encroach on DH's potential move.

  • Can your H just give the guy his uncle's address and the guy can give him the resume himself? I think it's wierd that the guy send the resume to your husband.

  • Yeah, the only way I'd think that was awkward is if...

    a) Your DH mentioned that HE wanted the job, and T is asking anyhow.
    or
    b) If T sucks and DH wouldn't be comfortable recommending him.
