Poll... Love Stories!

OK I am a sucker for love stories :)  I would love to hear how you met your significant other.

How and when did you meet?

Re: Poll... Love Stories!

  • I met mine playing soccer on the south shore. We were in smelly shin guards and getting sweaty. Apparently that works for us ;-)

  • My husband and I met while I was studying abroad in Australia in 2004.  I had just broken up with my long term boyfriend and definitely wasn't looking for another relationship. Let's just say that when I met him, I suddenly realized why it didn't work out with anyone else :)

  • We met when he was visiting Boston from Alaska. I was living in Somerville with friends from school. We were both had a sports bar in Boston watching a sox game (we are both die hard fans). We started talking, and right away knew he was the one. Long story short(ened), we spent two weeks together while he was here and then tried the long distance thing for a bit. We hated it, so after two months he sold his belongings and said goodbye to his family and friends and moved to Boston. I moved out of my apartment with my girlfriends and we moved in together. It was a HUGE chance, but the best one I ever took! =)

  • We met over a game of flip cup at a fraternity party. Very not-romantic lol.

PS I kicked his azz in the keg stand competition afterward.

  • We met on the first day of our senior year in high school. We had the same web design class and when we had to partner up for the first day activities, I asked DH if he wanted to be my partner. We didn't date until several years later though.
  • Love these stories... Keep them coming!   Thanks for sharing ladies!

  • Punky --- hillarious!!!!

We met through friends in March, but only said hello that day. The following months we saw each other in group settings and talked more. One of my guy friends became good friends with DH and i guess he would talk about me, but my guy "friend" wouldn't give him my #  even though he knew i thought he was cute (neither of us knew the others interest at the time). Eventually one weekend i was a little depressed so a group of us went out. DH asked me if i wanted to go outside (I thought to talk to him while he smoked) but when we got out there he just kissed me. We went on a proper date the following weekend and then saw each other every day after....the rest is history.

  • we met in august of 2005. i was working at a manager at a local resturant and he was living down the street and came in regularly. he would always ask the bartenters about me and told them he thought i was cute. i had no idea who he was for a while. and then one night he came in with a bunch of his buddies and we got to talking. we exchanged numbers and then the rest is history.

  • My brother had a serious girlfriend in HS who I was pretty close with. On Christmas night in 2004 after all the festivities we went to her parents' house to go in the hot tub and hang out (she has an older sister my age). Her cousin was there, and mmmmboy was he hot! Apparently the feeling was mutual Wink

  • DH and I went to the same college but didn't know each other until we went aboard to Australia. He lived in the same apartment as one of my projectmates and that ended up being the apartment we hung out in a lot. DH and I became instant friends. We spent most of the time there together (and with others too). We hung out over the summer between our junior and senior year but didn't start dating until the beginning of senior year.

We met working at Restoration Hardware... I had just got out of a relationship and wasn't looking for anything-- I was also in grad school full time (with a 24hr per week internship) and two other jobs (work-study & daycare at a gym). He was the stockroom manager.

We started talking about his nalgene bottle- it had a sticker of the mountain I grew up skiing at... and his sister lived there for a while. We knew some of the same people & he knew a college friend of mine from high school... so we had a lot in common. We went out for drinks after work one night and the following day he asked me out

Yikes, Mesa! How did you have time to do half of that, let alone meet your husband?!

  • We met in Italian class when I was a sophomore and he was a senior. We got together a little over a month before the end of the school year and it was decidedly not serious at first :P I was dating a guy I really liked who wouldn't commit after over a year on and off. I decided that a cute senior was just the thing to make this guy realize I was a catch and he should get exclusive. It worked, but unfortunately for him and to my surprise, I had fallen for DH. DH, for his part, just thought I was cute and figured I would be fun to hang out with until he graduated.

When he graduated and we went our separate ways, even though we both thought it would die a natural death over the summer, we ended up talking constantly on the phone while I was working at a sleep away camp and he was at home. At the end of the summer he decided to take a chance and moved up to Boston while I finished college. The rest is history I guess.

  • This is a great post, I love these stories!

DH's friends say that we met online.  Technically that's true as we were introduced via e-mail by a mutual friend.  We were living in the Bay Area at the time and I needed a ride to volleyball games down at Stanford.  My friend offered to drive me, but it would have been totally out of his way to pick me up so he asked DH and his roommate, who lived close by, to take care of me.  I kept a pretty busy social calendar so it was about a month before I took them up on their offer to drive me down, but DH and I had e-mailed and talked on the phone back and forth during that time--he even asked me out before he'd met me in person!

We finally went on a date soon after that first volleyball day and have been together ever since.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

No idea... but I did lose a ton of weight  (granted, after we started dating, I gained it all back). I didn't sleep to much that year.... once we started getting serious, I cut back on the jobs because I spent most of the time sick so I needed ot take care of myself.

  • Awesome post! I love the stories :-)
