Cooking question

If I make a marinade and then put raw chicken breasts in the marinade, can I freeze them (in the marinade) at that point and then just defrost them and continue marinating later? Will it mess with the marinade's flavor? The specific marinade I'm thinking of has lime juice, cilantro, tequila and jalapeno in it. Will the frozen marinade do something weird to the chicken's texture?

Re: Cooking question

  • It should be fine. The citrus can cook the chicken a little while it's thawed/thawing out, but it should really be fine. I love freezing chicken & beef in marinades, it just makes things easier.
  • I do that all the time.

Whenever I buy chicken / fish / beef / pork and I plan to cook it with a marinade -  I pre-marinade it in a ziplock freezer bag and freeze it.

While it thaws (and freezes) it marinades further.

The only thing that may happen is that your tequila may take a bit longer to freeze than the rest of the ingredients.

No harm in that, and it sounds yummy! Big Smile

    ?
  • Why have I never thought of doing this?  I am going to have to try it now thanks for the tip!
