Worst Job

What is the worst job you ever had?

Re: Worst Job

  • McDonalds... cooking breakfast and lunch with 2 guys who only spoke Spanish - I could understand about 1/3 of what they were saying - from 5 AM to noon.  It was miserable.  I was 16 and lasted 6 weeks before I caught myself falling asleep as I was driving to work at 4:30 in the morning.  I was working as a lifeguard at the time too so I would go straight from McDs to the pool and work until 8-10 pm there.  It was a bit much for me.

  • When I was 16 I spent 1 day at a mini-golf/go-kart type kids place. They put me at the prize counter for 5 hours straight. Let me tell you, that was a special kind of hell. Small children + handfuls of tickets + rainbow assortment of plastic junk = nightmarish. At the end of my first shift I handed them my name tag and said that I wouldn't be back.

  • Small town mom and pop restaurant. I wasted 3.5 years of my life there for 4.50 an hour.

  • These are making me giggle. I worked as a waitress at a crappy diner for a week until I made my college rooommate quit for me. I worked the overnight shift and the drunks would puke on my tables while the other waitress did coke in the bathroom.
  • Admissions Facilitator for a local chain technical college (that has since closed).  It was basically my job to make welfare moms and unemployed guys and gals cry and feel bad enough about themselves to sign up for classes (and then spend $8-10K on tuition) that would most likely get them an entry level office job paying an entry level wage (back when jobs were plentiful).  I lasted six months.  Dont' get me wrong, there are some really great technical colleges out there---this was not one of them.
  • Customer service rep for an insurance company. Two years of my life with people screaming at me, sometimes in different languages, for 40 hours a week.

  • I worked at Express at the mall. It wouldn't have been so bad, except three days after I was taught how to work the register, I had to do returns on the day after Christmas. The mall we were situated in was known for really snobby, rich, b*tchy clientele. I cried three times that day and quit a week later.

  • Worked at a warehouse that shipped science education materials. I was half office assistant/half warehouse worker. I was a 16 year old girl in a place full of 35  year old sex-offender-esque men. I had 2 stalkers while i worked there, but stayed for 5 years because it paid well above minimum wage.

A scarring experience to say the least.

  • Victoria's Secret.  The manager gave hours to people depending on how good of friends you were with her.  "Friendship" was based on how many credit cards applications you filed.  I refuse to push anyone into getting a credit card they don't want and ended up not being scheduled for a week.  Because I didn't have any apps the previous week (after not working), I was not scheduled for a second week, and so on...  After 5 weeks I went on one last shopping spree with the discount and gave my notice.

I did this part time after college but it was the opposite. You couldn't leave until you "sold" so  many credit cards. And we had on-call hours. On-call for retail!

  • My worst job was definately my last one. I worked at a car dealership and I worked with the most obnoxious man you could ever imagine.  He lied and swore and fought with everyone and smelled terrible. He thought selling cars was the most important thing in life and didn't care who or what got in his way. It honestly started to make me depressed that that's what I was doing with my life after going to college for 4 years. I worked there for 2 years and I was looking for a new job the whole time but the economy was so bad that I was stuck. I finally got my current job last August and it was a total relief to be out of there

I also worked at Kmart for 5 years during HS and college and trust me it did have it's bad moments but they were nothing compared to my dealership job

  • I've had pretty good luck with jobs, even in high school, with the exception of working at Taco Bell for about 6 weeks my senior year. It sucked.

Wow, I'm just gonna copy you. I worked at Taco Bell for a summer before I went to London for a semester in my senior year. Worst job because it sure stunk all the time and I'll never eat Taco Bell again after seeing the food prep!
