Re: Poll: Favorite food places

  • Reasonably-priced Boston restaurant: Stella for brunch, East Ocean City for dinner (but I really need to try more restaurants in the city proper)

Splurge-y Boston restaurant: No. 9 Park (though there are still a ton I haven't tried yet)

Reasonably-priced suburban restaurant: Daikanyama for sushi

Splurge-y suburban restaurant: Salts or Blue Ginger

Cheap/Dive restaurant: Hong Kong Eatery in Chinatown

Ethnic restaurant: Some of the ones above are ethnic, but in addition to those, O Ya is great but $$$$$, Elephant Walk, Little India in Waltham, Biagio for Italian...I could go on forever!

Ice cream place: Cabot's or Richardson's

Bar: I'm not a big bar person, but Union Street is a bar/grille in Newton that has great food and lots of beer options.

    Other?: N/A

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • Let's see what I can remember.

What are your faves in the area?

    Reasonably-priced Boston restaurant: Masa

Splurge-y Boston restaurant: It was Icarus, but seems they have closed down.

Reasonably-priced suburban restaurant: Melting Pot! (lol)

    Splurge-y suburban restaurant: Erm...

Cheap/Dive restaurant:  New Brown Jug Pizza in Chelsea. So good. Such a dive.

    Ethnic restaurant: Tangerino in Charlestown

Ice cream place: What is that place way out there that has ice cream and mini golf and bumper boats? That place.

Bar:  I am drawing a blank here. There is a good one in Brighton that is not college-y at all and one on the water in Charlestown where we would all go, but I cannot think of the stupid names.  OH I always liked Joshua Tree in Davis Sq. too!

Other?: Chow Thai in Charlestown is super as well! And of course, the North End is great- I like La Fam and L'Osteria.

  • What are your faves in the area?

    Reasonably-priced Boston restaurant:
Somerville: Boston Burger Company. Very unique and yummy burgers!

    Splurge-y Boston restaurant:
I guess I don't really have one! We aren't in the city too often!

    Reasonably-priced suburban restaurant:
    Flatbread in Bedford

    Splurge-y suburban restaurant:
    The Melting Pot in Bedford

    Cheap/Dive restaurant:
Big fan of Kravings in Woburn

    Ethnic restaurant:
Great Mandarin for Chinese in Woburn (Four Corners) or Mango II for Thai in Tewksbury

    Ice cream place:
    Kimball Farm in Westford

    Bar:
The Burren in Somerville. Lived in the city during college... loved that place!

    Other?:
    n/a

  • Reasonably-priced Boston restaurant: We usually go into the city to splurge a bit :)Splurge-y Boston restaurant: Union Oyster House is good, we like Maggianos too. Reasonably-priced suburban restaurant: Smokin' Joe's in Brighton Center is pretty good. Splurge-y suburban restaurant: Tasca in Brighton, yum! The prices aren't too bad, especially if you do what they call their "stimulus menu" which is basically a prix-fixe, but you have to know to ask for it. And the sangria is good stuff! Cheap/Dive restaurant:  Charlie's Pizza. Their pizza is really good, and their Middle Eastern is pretty good too.Ethnic restaurant: Anna's Taqueria for cheap, Fugakyu for spendy. Ice cream place: We don't really go for ice cream, but there is a place in Brighton we get it from if we do. 3 Scoops I think it is called? Bar: Harry's and The Green Briar. They both have a nice crowd. Far enough away from the schools to avoid tons of college kids, but still hopping on a Friday night. Other?: Foodler.com is addictive. A little too addictive. Organizes every delivery place that delivers to your address by food type.

We were so disappointed in Tasca.  Maybe we went on a bad night, but the service was horrible, the food was just OK, and the sangria was very blah.  Totally a bummer as we went for DH's birthday and my whole family was celebrating with us.

I'm sorry to hear that! Nothing worse than getting all excited about a new place and having a bad experience. Most of the time I've had a great time there, but I've had a bad meal or two as well. If you ever decide to try it again, my friends and I usually get the peach sangria instead of the regular. Maybe that'll improve things :)
