Bathroom redo...

I need your opinion...I recently bought a new shower curtain, towels, and accessories and hung a shelf in our son's bathroom. Yesterday my FIL hung a new light fixture over the mirror and of course it didn't cover the same amount of wall the old one did so there's now two paint colors up there.

Which leads me to the part where I need your opinion: How hard do you think it would be to put in a new vanity (one with the complete sink top) and tile our floor? I feel like if I'm going to paint I might as well go the extra steps and do the rest too. It's not that big of a bathroom and we could definitely get a standard size vanity. So should I see about the complete redo, or just paint the walls? (My dad/FIL may be able to help with the tile and plumbing hookup)

Re: Bathroom redo...

  • As I type DH is working on putting down a floating floor in the bathroom and a new toilet.  It's probably going to be a two day project.  In total it's going to cost us about $250-300.  The floor looks exactly like tile but is so much cheaper and easier to install (no grouting).

I painted the bathroom about a year and a half ago and wish I had been able to re-do the floor and toilet then.

  • A floating floor? I'll have to check that out. I've never seen or heard of it before.

  • Tiling isn't hard, esp floors. MUCH easier than walls/back splashes.

A "floating floor" is simply one that isn't nailed down. This includes pergo floors and all the snap n lock ones. They're very easy to install, esp over an existing floor.

And the vanity isn't difficult either. My H and his grandfather redid our bathroom in a weekend  - including a new floor, vanity, mirror, light fixtures, and wainscotting on the walls.

    Good luck!
