Re: True Blood

  • 1) I pictured Debbie less trashy in the books.

    2) The Sam storyline is omfg so boring. And I like Sam.

    3) The dude who plays Franklin will always be Forney from "Where the Heart Is".

    4) NEEDS MOAR JESSICA. I love that girl.

  • Agree on all counts except #3 because I don't remember that movie well enough.
I think they overdid the methhead look on Debbie.  The hair was especially bad.
I know everybody thinks Alcide is hot, but I just can't see past what a goober he is.  Maybe if he spends more time shirtless I can jump on the bandwagon.

The sex scene with Lorena and Bill last week was highly disturbing.

I'm interested in the changes they made from the books.

  • I think Bob covered it.  I'll add that I love the Alcide casting choice, and that Jessica is my favorite "wasn't in the book" addition/change, aside from not killing off Lafayette.

I assume we're dealing with a boring Sam storyline, since I don't recall him having much story at all in book 3.

Not season 3 related, just general:  I never pictured Tara as black reading the books.  Did I miss that detail?  I envisioned her as a southern Selma Blair type.

  • I don't think Tara was black in the books. I am missing the fabulous fashions they sell at Tara's Togs, though!

  • This season is not coming together (ie: as addicting) as well as the previous seasons have.  It seems like it's all over the place.  More coherence!  (also, I haven't read the books, so maybe this is how the books are at this point)

    1. I'm sick of Tara being the weak link. First Marianne, now this vamp?  Die already!

    2. Bill's getting too patriarchal for me.  Eric is getting hotter.

    3. What is up with Sookie's eyebrows?

I agree - Jessica is adorable.

  • I am seriously loving Eric this season.  His Sookie daydream was excellent.  And I love that he sold Lafayette the car for $1 to avoid taxes.

Sam's storyline is extremely boring, but I did get a kick out of his Bill dream.  Bow chicka bow wow.

Oh god yes.  I would love to see a costume director to get work on that.  Poor Charlaine Harris is a wee bit out of touch with fashion.  The books all run together for me now, but I'm pretty sure she referenced a scrunchie at some point, and all I could think about was that Sex & the City episode where Carrie was all "Dude, Burger, a scrunchie??"  But all the clothing descriptions are pretty cringe-worthy.

  • In general I don't mind most of the storyline changes, but I have trouble understanding some of the changes that they made.  For instance - how is sams brother a shifter, when in the books only the first born is a shifter? this bothers me.

also in the books, a big part of debbies insecurity/jealousy/issues come from the fact that she's "just a shifter" but she seemed to be a were in the show.  why? and yes.  I pictured her with less mullet.

I definitely miss the fashion stuff, although I did get a laugh at Sookie all dressed up for Lou Pines last week.  I'm not sure that I'll ever forgive the show for robbing me of the scene in book two where Eric was supposed to be decked out in pink spandex though.

  • Oh god, I'll be forever pissed that they didn't include sex party Eric.

  • Ha!  Yes, Charlaine Harris' outfit descriptions were totally laughable.  I kept thinking the books were written in the late 80s/early 90s based on them, and then I would remember they weren't.

  • I love Eric (also sad not to have seen him in latex), and Bill ticks me off more in the show than he did in the books, a lot more.  Maybe it is the way he says Sook-eh.

I have now watched all the episodes and am caught up, and I will agree with Bob and everyone on the Debbie thing.

Sookie's outfits are not as outlandish as her books, but they are still a bit hokey for me.

I do like how they kept Lafayette, I really like his character and have enjoyed him, but we can kill Tara right now.  Without the store, she is nothing.

Did anyone expect Pam to be more preppy looking?  In the books I was picturing more of a WASP-y soccer mom look. And I expected the Queen to be more of a 19th century style in her dress and hair style.
