Ok so I just read on GP that there's an old wives tale that if your mom dreams of salmon you're pregnant. DH told me to tell my mom to "keep her dreams out of the ocean."
Also, speaking of baby names, is Jack short for anything besides maybe Jackson? I sort of agreed to DH that we could name our second son Jack(son) Bauer. But then he said he was a sociopath. I never watched 24 so IDK. I want the first son to be named Calvin Christopher but DH hates the name Calvin, which is frustrating because it was my grandpa's name and he had agreed last year that we could name our first son Calvin. He said maybe as a middle name so maybe Christopher Calvin? /vent.
We are destined to have sons because DHs family is all boys and I want a girl desperately.
Re: s/o Baby names and stuff
Have I started a pre-pregnant baby naming trend?
I think Jack is sometimes a nickname for John. Weird, I know, but my grandfather's name was John and his whole life everyone called him Jack. I like Jackson a lot, though.
I actually think Christopher Calvin flows better than Calvin Christopher, but that's just me.

you can "kinda" choose the sex....its all about having sex at the correct time, if you can pinpoint when you ovulate that is...and if i remembe correct you have borderline pco??? anyways male sperm (like life) shoot out screaming and blazing but have a shorter life span.....female sperm (like life) are calmer and get things done a bit more organized (Lol!) and have a longer life span.....if you have sex (ONLY ONCE!!! THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT!) before you ovulate the male sperm will die before the egg comes out so only female sperm will get there. but if you have sex more then once then the male sperm will get there first, or if it is after you ovulate cause male sperm are faster they will get there first...
There are books on it if you want more info...i have a couple friends who have used this and it worked...
Oh, God no. No weird spellings.
I'm not sure how well that would work IRL, I'll have to ask hubby about it when he gets home. I do have PCOS so it's going to take a lot to get me to ovulate. Before I started BCP as treatment I regularly ovulated, like clock work, once every 13 months. I except to be on Clomid when we start trying and I'm not taking any chances. When the time comes and I ovulate, SEX ME UP. LOTS. I'm not waiting for slow sperm. We want two children and we'll be able to afford to spin the sperm the second time around to choose gender if we want. (Yes, I am aware some people are really against that.)
Anyway, we're not going to try for two years. Which DH allowed us to move up the time table from 5 to 2 years!
And yes raeyn you started a trend. I even blogged about my baby name criteria, haha.

Yep, Jack can be a nickname for John. I think it's an older thing though, because two of my professors are John's but they go by Jack (they're old southern gentlemen lol).
Am I the only weird person left on this planet that doesn't want to know the sex of the baby before it is born? I told H that the other night (while discussing my cousins baby) and he looked at me like I had two heads. I mean, yeah it's nice to be able to do the room and buy gendered clothes, but I don't wanna know. And I already know how I want to do the baby room and it's gender non-specific (loser, right?!)
1. our landlord is John but goes by Jack.
2. I've been thinking about baby names since I knew I was going to marry DH! i feel like we have a tough last name haha.
3. we're probably about 2 years away from starting to try...I feel like we're going to have 4 boys. I don't know why, but I have this really strong feeling that our first is going to be a boy, hands down. My mom says I will have all boys because I need to be the queen of the household. This might be why I want a male dog haha.
4. I also like the sound of Christopher Calvin better than Calvin Christopher.
What is everyone thinking about for names?
for boys, I love Zachary Michael. Zachary is DH's middle name, but he HATES it..i dont know why! Michael is my father's name, as well as my brother's.
for girls, I love Charlotte, which is DH's mother's and grandmother's name..but I dunno if we'll use it. I also love Sophia, Ava and Heidi, but Sophia sounds really Italian (I am Italian, so its not soo bad), Ava with our last name sounds totally German, and Heidi with our last name sounds totally Dutch haha. who knows. And no, I don't like heidi because of the hills haha.
Some family names that we would really like to use somehow are Leavenworth, Wallace, Bettencourt, and then maybe my maiden name.
you all are going to think I'm crazy for my names, but here goes:
girls: gwendolyn, genevieve, adelaide or isabella
boys: forest (H's family name, probably middle) zane, zachary, and the weirdest: donald quinten. The oldest boy on my dad's side has always been named donald (donald kenneth, donald kenneth II, donald kevin, then my dad didn't have a boy, so my older sister's middle name is Dawn) Since she isn't having children and I want to carry on the tradition, I plan on calling him Quint (like the 5th). H has never voiced an opinion on the latter, but he HATES zane.
Alise - I am so partial to Ava and Heidi. My cousin that is having the baby is named Heidi
I'm Dutch, so I see nothing wrong with Scandinavian names!
and I LOVE the older names that we all like!
DH is always really hesitant of names that are too "ethnic" haha. Our nieces name is Riley, and his grandmother said that it sounds like she is the Irish town drunk. I personally don't mind names that sound like a certain nationality..I loved that people could read my maiden name and know I was armenian.
ps..we're definitely not picking armenian names haha..my great grandfathers name was Akribas! haha
I'm impressed with everyone's choices, thus far! No Apples, or Pilot Inspektors
As I said before, I'm a HUGE fan of family names. It's not really done in my family anymore. Back in the day, the first born male on my mom's side was named Cornelius and he named his first born male Denis and it would switch generation to generation - I'm thinking the name Cornelius ruined it for everyone. That's a tough name to be stuck with.
Anyway, EVERYONE in H's family has a family name, so this makes it really hard. There are already so many Thomases, Patricks, Michaels, Daniels, etc. that it's confusing. I would LOVE Denis as a boy's name, but H hates it.
We both have kind of agreed on Patrick with a nickname of Packy, but we'll see.
For girls, Sonia Anne (Sonia was my grandma's name, Anne is my MIL) is #1, and we both like Ruby as well - maybe Ruby Kate (no Rubys in the family, but Kate is my SIL)? We only plan on two kids, so we'll just have to see what genders we're dealt and take it from there!

I'm 1/2 Swedish typically love Scandinavian names (like Sonia), but my grandfather's mother's name was Wendella. There IS something wrong with that. And my grandmother's father's name was Arvid. Ouch, again.
I do like Gunnar, but that's kind of a tough name as well.

I thought the same thing. I also love that there are family traditions or thoughts behind the names everyone is mentioning.
I love the name Kaylea Rose for a girl. Kay is my moms and maternal grandma's middle name, Lea (pronounce Lee) is mine, and Rose is my paternal grandma's middle name. Both of my grandma's have passed so I really want to honor them in some way. Otherwise, I want to try and incorporate Darlene and Genevieve in some way (it's their first names).
For a boy, I was always fond of Damien, but I am afraid that it a precursor for a problem child (watched too many thriller movies I guess). Otherwise, in my family, the first born boy had the father's name for their middle name, so that means I need to find a first name that sounds good with Brian. I haven't found one I like yet.
DH and I have only talked a little on children's names. A few names were thrown out on the table but until we know we are expecting, we probably won't talk about it much. Oh, and he wants 3 boys, I wouldn't mind, but I have to have a girl in there.
Hahaha my grandmother's mom was Hilda, her dad was Thord, and her aunt was Helga lol, and I have a great grandfather whose name is Gay (that one isn't being passed on). I love the Scandanavian looks that I got, but some of the names just can't be passed on
I like Gunnar, though!
I never knew about the slow sperm trick... interesting. I think I will care more about the time of year I have a baby rather than the sex, though, so I will probably just have as much sex as possible when I'm trying to conceive.
I've been thinking about babies rather obsessively lately, but when DH suggested that we start trying this fall if I don't get a full time job this year, I kind of freaked out. It would be a convenient time if I don't have a job yet, but I realized that I am just so not ready to stop being selfish.
I would love to name my future baby John and call him Jack, after my grandfather, but John is also the name of the man who is currently making my husband's life a living hell. He is willing to just use Jack, though.
Musgral, I want to know the sex as soon as possible, but I think it's a personal choice. I plan on using fairly gender neutral colors in the nursery (I hate that people assume blue means boy and pink means girl), but I'd like to pick a name in advance and put it on things. Oh, and I love the name Zachary!
Melko, Sophia has become really popular recently for non-Italians as well. Personally I like the idea of Wallace as a middle name.

Lots of replies! Whew!
Melko - I really like Ava. I think Heidi would be teased ("Go back to your mountain" or something). I think Zachary Michael is a strong name. You need a strong name for a boy with lots of syllables so when they're in trouble you can draw it out. "ZACH-ARY MICH-AEL, you com here RIGHT NOW!!" Leavenworth is a strange name to me, I wouldn't use it as the first name. Any relation to the prison? Was it named after a family member maybe?
Jrsy - I don't like the name Madison either. It reminds me of that ditzy girl from Secret Life of the American Teenager. I think it's one of those trend names that will go away in ten years.
Noron - I like Sonia. We couldn't pull it off, but it's a nice name. I always think people with the same names as Supreme Court Justices are going to do well in life.
Rayen- agreed about the time of year. I don't want to be 7-9 months pregnant in the middle of the summer. I'd probably kill someone accidentally.
And we would definitely find out the gender of the baby as soon as we could. I'm going to go crazy decorating a nursery. If we have girl someday I want a purple and brown room probably with polka dots. For a boy I'd probably do green with a jungle animal theme or something. No pink. I don't hate pink, but people over do it in little girls rooms.

Ideally I'd like to give birth at the end of April. Then I could take my 12 weeks of maternity leave at the end of the school year and spend the whole summer with my new baby. I'm sure that will all work out exactly as planned, right?
I like the idea of jungle/animals no matter what gender. I've always dreamed of painting a mural on a wall (or walls) in my room, but when I was a kid my parents never let me. Now that I'm married, my husband won't let me. Fortunately, I convinced him to give me free reign in the nursery when we're having a baby.

Ooooh how fun!
For girls, I've always loved Autumn, Claire, Mollie, Lily, and Joan.
For boys, I really like traditional or family names. My mom's maiden name is Clark, which I'd love for a middle name, or Henry, which is both our dad's middle name and Sean's Papa's name. For first names, I like Patrick, James, Andrew, and Adam.
We're hoping for 2, maybe 3 kids. It's highly likely we'll have a boy, and then a girl. It's the trend in both our families.
For a nursery, I'm ok with some pink and blue, but not as primary colors. I like soft yellow and with mostly white and probably pale blue or purple accents depending on the kiddo. I love my friend's daughter's room, she decorated with a bit of a Noah's ark theme, with animals, a cute little ark lamp, and pictures. We'll see when the time comes!
my blog
I want to do a mural of under water stuff for the nursery. I'm thinking things like "baby-ish" starfish, sea horses, fish, etc. in muted colors and using beige, greens, and corals for the main colors so that it will work for boys and girls. I love painting murals and did my friends nursery almost a year ago with elephants and she LOVES it. I think it adds a lot of personality.
ooopps haha...I meant all of those family names as middle names! As far as I know, theres no relation to the prison...everyone asks us that! haha
I also don't like Madison...I think because in HS...ALL of my friends said they wanted to name their daughter Madison so they could call her Maddie. Seriously, I think there were conversations like, "well, what if our daughters have the same name??!! what do we do!" haha
