I am Japanese, and BF has repeatedly mentioned about wanting to learn how to speak it. He's done some research, and he's found some local colleges that offer Japanese language courses. However, they vary in price significantly.
Great Oaks offers it for $165. US Raymond Walters offers it for $459. I'm not so worried about the price, but more concerned about the quality of teaching. Japanese (I used to TA in college) isn't an easy language to pick up, so I'd like for him to get a good quality course. I'm wondering what makes the course price so different? Is UC truly "better" or am I just paying for the UC name?
If you have any tips/opinions, that'd be great. Also- if you know of any other locations, all suggestions would be welcome. (There is a Japanese Language School in Grtr Cincy, but it's only for Japanese students- not students who are leaning Japanese as a 2nd language.)
Re: Schools: Asian language classes/courses
My first thought was Communiversity, on UC's campus.

I don't see that it's offered this summer and the fall brochure isn't out yet but it might be something to look into.
I've never heard of it- thanks for the suggestion!

That is so neat. I tried to send you a PM, but couldn't get through. Does your BIL know how to read/speak/write Japanese?
Yeah he's actually going back to Japan for a few weeks next week and has been trying to get a job over there teaching English but no luck yet. Email me at louiecj (at) gmail (dot) com

There is a specialized school downtown called Cincilingua (they are a customer of my company's) and they have teachers from all over the world that teach individually whatever language you want. I have heard they are a bit pricey, but also that its been worth it to those who used them.
