Show me your dream house!

Alright - I'm going to admit it to you guys. HH and I live in a mobile home. But don't think trailer trash! It is a very nice, newer one; we've made many improvements to make it feel more like a "real" house. However, we don't plan to stay in it long term. We are living there for the time being, to save money so we can move eventually. Now that HH has a new, way better paying job, we're on our way! Big Smile

I've been spending a lot of time lurking on the D&R board, and drooling over everyone's nice houses.

HH and I have always loved bungalow style houses. We'd love to have something like one of these in the not-so-far-off future!

Not mansions by any means, but I think they're so charming.
Show me houses you love!

Re: Show me your dream house!

  • We also love the bungalow and craftsman style houses :) charming! with character! I hate cookie cutter houses (haha even though I bought one)

  • Adam is in love with A-frame houses... why?  I have no idea.  I would absolutely love to have a two story house, but I'm perfectly content with the house we have now.... I would LOVE LOVE LOVE for it to be bigger, but otherwise, it's perfect for us!

  • I mean, I think they're cute, but I've never been in one so I just can't imagine how they utilize the space!  Every one I've seen looks tiny.

  • Also, I would LOVE a giant wrap-around front porch with a porch swing

This!! Matt likes big houses with lots of gingerbread. I say "Do you know how long it would take to clean that thing?!" I like small houses-- that bungalow looks perfect!

If I had unlimited time and money, I would definitely want a farmhouse. At this point, though, I would be perfectly happy with a little old coal-town house. Someday...

  • I tried googling houses that I like, but I'm really particular and couldn't really find any.  haha

I do like OUR house, but maybe just because it's ours, and the first one that we owned together.  HH keeps calling it our "starter" home because he fully plans on moving into something bigger and better in another few years, but I really like this one!  It's bigger than the house I grew up in, and that one was big enough for our family of 6, so it's not like we don't have enough space here.  It's nicer than most of our friends homes, IMO (except for our friends whose parents *ahem* "helped" them pay for their home...).

Ditto this.  Most of my friends don't even own homes (which there is nothing wrong with that at all), but I still feel that ours is nicer than some of the ones who do.  That makes me seem kinda bitchy and snobby, but it's true.  I LOVE our house, but it IS a starter home.  We'll probably move in about 5 years to upgrade to a larger house once we start poppin out kids.

  • Okay, somewhere like this is my pipe dream:

    image

It reminds me of my great-grandma's house, where my mom's cousin and his wife and daughter now live. I wish I could find a picture of it.

  • Something like this though I want something with a bigger front lawn and the porch to go all the way across the front with the door in the middle if that makes sense.

Oh me too!! It's brand new. They just finished building it as well as one right next door (you can kind of see the blue house to the right) a few months ago. They are for sale and every time I run by them I pause for a minute just to stare :)

  • I love that some new houses are starting to go with the non-cookie-cutter styles. It seems like older homes have so much more character. I have seen a few bungalows built within the past few years that I love!
