Question for Oahu ladies RE: Hiking alone

Hope you don't mind an outsider asking a question.  DH and I will be visiting Oahu.  He's traveling for business, I'll be on vacation and will have alot of time to myself.  I'd like to do some hiking, but wasn't sure of the safety factor of doing it alone there.  What do you recommend?

Re: Question for Oahu ladies RE: Hiking alone

  • depends on the hike.

    diamond head, absolutely.

manoa falls, you can hike alone, there are enough people that pass through, just in case something happens.

pill box in kailua, is a super easy hike with lots of peeps.

koko head, yes.  although it's more like the ultimate stairmaster than a traditional hike. i go by myself all the time.

stairway to heaven...no way would i do it alone.

did you have a particular hike in mind?

Thanks for the info Husky -

No particular hike in mind yet - I'll be out there next week.  I just wasn't sure how populated the trails are on an average day.  Just like here in GA, there are trails that are relatively safe to do, while others in the mountains are not.  We've had an increasign number of hikers go missing over the years, and that's what I'm more concerned about. So less concern for me falling and getting hurt, but more concern about the people (or lack of people) that would be on the trails lookign for women that are alone.  KWIM?

  • i hike quite a bit and would feel safe doing them alone.  the terrain here can be kinda sketch depending if it has rained or if it flash floods on you, so it's always good to have peeps around for that reason.

any of the hikes i mentioned above are pretty well populated.

    have fun!
