Signature Dish

What is your signature dish? Do you have a recipe everyone begs for? Extra credit for recipes!

Re: Signature Dish

  • Taco Soup

It's my grandma's recipe but I'm the one who makes it and gets asked for the recipe all the time... But I can't find it at the moment of course.

    ETA: Just found it!
    Ingredients:
    2 1/2 pounds Hamburger browned
    3 cans of chopped tomatoes
    1 can tomato sauce
    2 cans corn
    2 packages taco seasoning
2 cans kidney bens- drained and rinsed
2 large cans of tomato juice
-Put it all in a pan and cook until barely boiling.
Top with sour cream and crumbled Fritos.
*This is a HUGE recipe so I usually either cut it in half or freeze it in single servings so we can pull them out when I have nothing else to cook.*

  • DH is the chef, professionally and at home. So my signature dish is just an omelette, stuffed with spinach that has been sauteed with olive oil and minced garlic. Its so sad, lol
  • The taco soup recipe sounds good!  I'll have to keep it in mind for winter, not for today when it's 100 degrees!

I made one of my grandma's recipes that I love best last night--beef stroganoff.  It's sooo good.

1 lb beef stew meat, cut into bite size pieces

    1 stick butter

    flour

    1/2 c. chopped onion

    1 clove garlic

    1 can tomato sauce

    2 c. beef broth

    1 T. worcestershire sauce (I can't spell that word!)

    1 c. sour cream

Flour meat.  Brown with butter in dutch oven.  Add onion and garlic.  Simmer for a couple minutes.  Add beef broth.  Bake covered at 325 for 1 hour.

Stir.  Add tomato sauce, worcestershire sauce, and salt and papper to taste.  Bake another hour.  Keep warm on stovetop and add sour cream.  Stir frequently for a few minutes while sour cream melts.  Serve over egg noodles.

  • One of my most requested dishes at gathering is Shrimp Scampi Pasta

2 1/2 Pounds of raw shrimp season to liking
    (Garlic powder & Adobo)
1 Box of Pasta (I use Campanelle)

Cook shrimp for about 5 minutes in a teaspoon of butter.

    In another pot add:
-1 cup of butter, 2 tablespoons of olive oil stir until melted and add 1 table spoon of minced garlic. Cook for about 2 minutes. Add 1/2 cup of white wine (drinking or cooking) Let it come up to a boil and add your cooked shrimp. Let it cook for about 5 minutes then turn off.

Add water to another pot and bring up to boil add salt and the pasta.     (8-10 minutes) Once pasta is done add to shrimp. Add a handful of parmesan cheese stir and ENJOY!

  • I'm not a great cook but I do make a mean minestrone (I'll have to get that recipe at home if you want it)

Also- pumpkin pie. You can follow any directions (though it's definitely best when you use an actual pie pumpkin, not the canned stuff) and add a little orange extract before you pour it in the shell- YUM!! (I usually add 1/4-1/2 t, and my family thinks I'm a gourmet chef w/ the best ever pumpkin pie. I don't tell them it's just the recipe on the label with the extract! hahaha)  I've also made a yummy yogurt topping that I spread on after it's cooled, just vanilla yogurt, a little nutmeg, a TINY bit of cinnamon, and a dash of orange extract. (but if you do this, use 1/2-3/4 the amount of sugar that the pie recipe calls for- it's SUPER sweet!)

  • Pasta salad

Its just pasta, red & green bell peppers cut up, olives, cheese, italian dressing & spices. I am not sure what the spices are cuz H makes it. I do know that basil and salt & pepper are in it. We get asked to bring it every special occasion.

  • I need to find my recipe but I do a bangin' homemade dressing for the holidays where I'll boil chicken strips, use the broth from chicken in there instead of canned chicken broth and then cut up the boiled chicken strips in to the dressing. It is fabulous!

  • Fettucine Alfredo.  I will have to look up the recipe when I get home but it is super easy (I think it's pasta, .25 cup butter, .25 or .5 cup heavy cream, .5 cup parmesan cheese (i always dump in extra) and an egg yolk) but it is so good.  Also, horrible for you health wise but delicious.  I always get asked to make it.  I just change up what I throw in it to make it different - chicken, broccoli, bacon, peppers.
  • Y'alls dishes sound delish, but need something sweet to follow up.  How about Chocolate Chip Cake!

Ingredients:  1 box of yellow cake, 1 box of chocolate instant pudding (small box), 8 oz of sour cream, 3/4 cup oil, 3/4 cup water, 3 eggs, 6 oz chocolate chips.

Blend all ingredients in large bowl (except chocolate chips).  Beat for 4 minutes. Fold in chips.  Pour into well greased/floured bundt pan (or whichever pan you prefer).  Bake for 50 minutes at 350*.  Cool completely before removing from pan.  Frosting is optional.

I love sweets and opted for buttercream frosting, though as a chocolate lover, I could go with chocolate frosting too!  Thinking of making cupcakes next time.  Stick out tongue

    That sounds very yummy.

I don't really have a signature dish. But I love making spaghetti and meatballs. I am just now starting to try out different recipes. H wants to try some new stuff...

Anyone know if there's a way to save this thread?  Haha.  My "signature dish" is... chocolate chip cookies.  But they're really good ones!  I'm making lasagna from scratch right now, H had a bad day at work and I want to surprise him.  It's a pain in the butt though... if it comes out, I may make it my weekends only signature dish!

  • Those all sound amazing! I want the dressing recipe for sure! I'm running low on ideas and since my recent love affair with gyros has been put on hold, H doesn't like them, I wanted some inspiration.

Now I'm all sorts of hungry. I'm off to make mimosa cupcakes!

I want the dressing recipe for sure!

Just sent my mom a FB message since my recipe book is in my hometown. When I get the recipe, I'll post it on here for you.

  • My H and I cook at home a lot but I really don't have any of my own recipes. I look them up and then make them. My favorite sites being http://www.foodnetwork.com/  and http://eatbetteramerica.com/. Tonight though we are going to have crispy honey chipolte tacos. I take chicken and cut it into strips, bread and fry them in whatever breading I have around. Then I make the honey chipolte sauce which is as follows:

    • 2 chipotle chiles, stemmed and seeded
    • 1 tomato, cored and cut in quarters
    • 1/2 small onion, peeled and sliced
    • 1 clove garlic, peeled
    • 1/2 cup water
    • l teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 cup honey
    • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar

In a small saucepan, bring chiles, tomato, water, onion, garlic and salt to a boil and reduce to a simmer. Cook, slowly, covered for 15 minutes, then puree in a blender until smooth transfer to a small bowl and add honey and vinegar.

Then I put them in flour shells with cheese lettuce tomatoes and I personally like it with ranch dressing instead of sour cream but either is good.

  • I make a mean mac and cheese -- no, not the box kind! It's kind of like this recipe, but without the mustard/worc sauce and with all kinds of different cheeses. Plus I butter bread and break them up in pieces to put on top.

I also make these chocolate cake cookies with cream cheese filling that everyone has now dubbed "Mindy cookies." They are super easy to make and super yummy!
