Mysterious bug bites?

I've got what looks and feels like chigger bites, but I haven't been sitting in the grass or spending any time outside where chiggers typically hang out. I sat on the patio the other day, and now I have these hella ITCHY red welts on my hips, waist, inner thighs, and under the band of my bra. Chiggers typically head for warm places like beneath waistbands, etc., but I can't imagine I have chiggers on my lawnchairs and my concrete patio. I collected some more bites after taking my kids to the park, but we stayed on the mulched playground and never stepped foot in the grass.

What else could this be? Any guesses? Definitely not mosquitoes, because there's no way they could reach some of the places where I have bites.

  • biting gnats?

any chance it's some heat rash?

  • Chiggers and mosquitoes are crafty and they get into places and you don't even know it.  I ALWAYS get bitten by them during the spring/summer months.  I have found that they seek me out like crazy no matter what.  I have gotten both kinds of bites in places I didn't think they would venture, so I would say its very possible.  They have this stuff otc called Calmoseptine that you can use and it helps a lot.  Its a thicker pink colored lotion type cream.  Put it on the bites and it really helps cut the itching down tremendously.  I have a mosquito bite right now that hasn't bugged me (hehe, no pun intended) much since I found this stuff.  A little goes a LONG way w/ it, too.  GL!

  • Spider bites?  I also vote for mosquitoes.  I've had bites in weird places!

  • DD has been getting them on her pantyline and her shoulders (right around the seam of her shirt). We've been using Bite MD (made by Cutter), the stuff is awesome, you dab a little on and the bite starts to fade within 15 minutes--it's usually gone within a day or two (unless you're like me and covered in mosquito bites).
  • I'll have to try some of these products. The itch is fierce (which is one of the reasons I don't think they're mosquito bites. Mosquito bites itch, but these bites iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitch. It feels like chiggers.)

  • My parents always get these same types of bites.  My dad gets them even by being the garage.  They can be inside the home also.  We've always called them "biting fleas."
