Did you....

preserve your dress yet? Or what are you doing with it? Where is it right now? I just realized mine is hanging in our spare bedroom. Umm... I'm thinking I have to do something with it at some point! Oops! Anyone know around how much the whole preserving stuff is?

Re: Did you....

  • lol it's lying on the lounge chair in our bedroom.... nearly a month later.

  • hahaha Nice Nobs. I have a few other wedding stuff just sitting in our spare bedroom (the door is always closed!). I like just kind of forgetting about it. :-D
  • It's hanging at my parents' house in my old room.  I'm going to do a sort of TTD session and then I have no idea.  I was all set to sell it before the wedding but now I have attachment issues with it.  I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Mine is doing the same thing!  Ugh, we both suck lol ;)

  • Mine is also hanging in our guest room closet.  It is DIRTay and I have no desire to pay to get it cleaned.  I have no idea what to do with it either.  I don't necessarily need to keep it, but also am not sure it's a good idea to get rid of it (maybe I'd regret it someday?)  Somebody should make this decision for me (us all).

  • Mine is hanging on the back of my closet door. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it, actually...I haven't decided.

  • Mine is hanging up in the closet waiting for my Rock the Frock... After that, I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
  • Mine is hanging in my closet. I am going to get it cleaned and preserved. The store where I bought it gave me $75 off, but it's still kinda pricey so I'm waiting till we have a little more money saved up.
  • My mom is a quilter and I think that I'm going to have her make mine into a wall hanging. I think that will be a nice momento to have and then it won't be just shoved into a closet somewhere. Plus my dress is ivory and green so I think that could make a very nice wall hanging.

  • At the dry cleaners I used to work at (in Toledo, OH), dress preservation was $150.  You'd be amazed how many women never came back to pick theirs up!

I have no clue what I'm going to do with mine... the thing about preservation is that as soon as you open it, like to look at it, show, whatever, all preservation is gone.  So, I don't think I'll be going that route.  Oh well.  I don't think I care if mine turns yellow.

  • Mine's hanging in the closet. I want to do a TTD but can't justify the cost, but I haven't 100% ruled it out....but I might just have it cleaned.

I heard from a woman who owns a wedding consignment store and sells a lot of wedding dresses that they don't come out of preservation that well -- a lot of them come out with brown spots from not being properly dried before being put in the box, etc. She recommends storing them in an all cotton bag with no metal on the hanger -- it'll let it breathe a little, but keep it from getting dusty or yellow, and you can still look at it. And she sells those bags for $40. Way cheaper than preservation.

  • Mine made its way back into its hanging back.  I think that is good enough.  Maybe one day it will be recycled for a Halloween costume. Party!!! Other than that, it didn't get that dirty and it isn't worth the cost IMO to have it preserved, cleaned, etc.
  • Mine is hanging up in a closet at my parent's house.  Until THIS moment, what to do next has not crossed my mind.

  • Mine is at my mom's house in my old closet.  I would love to preserve mine but not sure with costs and all of that.  I have also thought about donating it to something like Brides against Breast Cancer.  Not really sure...I mean I won't wear it again and am not sure what I would do with a preserved dress...probably just put in the closet...tough decision.  Not even sure where to start if I want to get it preserved.
  • Mine is in my grandmothers house. I'm thinking of getting it dry cleaned, but thats about it.

  • My parents took it to get cleaned while we were on the HM. Yes, it was kinda expensive (but they paid for it), but I just love my dress that I wanted it preserved. It will stay at their house until we move back.

  • I'm gonna let my BIL take pics of me all dressed up again to help build his portfolio then have it cleaned and put it back in the closet where it is now.  It would be nice to think my daughter might one day want to wear it but that aint gonna happen. She wants to go to FIT after graduation so maybe I'll let her redesign something with it.
  • it's hanging in the closet at the moment. i'm thinking of doing a TTD or even bridal session, but im not sure. eventually im going to have it hemmed to tea length so i can wear it on our anniversaries. :)
  • Mine is laying on the bed in the spare room.  I keep thinking I'll get it cleaned (the very bottom got a little dirty), but I can't figure out why.  Maybe I'll sell it, since I can always keep the veil and straps that I used to wrap my bouquet as momentos.  Meh...
  • Mine is just hanging the back of my closet.   I am going to do a TTD shoot then probably have it dry cleaned, put it back in the bag, and hang in the back of my guest room closet.
  • I brought mine to the dry cleaners the day after we got back from the HM. It was just a mess, and completely in the way of everything. It's going to take until September to be finished, and I don't mind. It was $250 to preserve and I can gladly wait to shell that out.
