sad day :(

DH's granddad had a massive heart attack yesterday, everything is snowballing from there and it does not look good. DH is really, really sad. The most emotional I have ever seen.

Baby Jack (John IV) will never get to meet John I. DH has always put a picture of the 3 of them (I-III) on his desk and was really looking forward to updating it.

We are looking into flights back but at this point it only seems like DH will go.

I *knew* we should have flown out for a vist in the Spring. But SIL is having a baby in Aug. and DH's family put a major guilt trip on us to come out for that too and we could only really afford one trip so we had to wait until Sept.

Don't beat yourself up over not going in the spring. You made the best decision for yourselves given the circumstances! I'm sure if your ILs had known this was going to happen, they wouldn't have pushed so hard for you to come out in September.

Oh no, I am so sorry to hear this. Sending lots of hugs, thoughts and prayers to you and your family. I am also so sorry that baby Jack hasn't met his eldest namesake. That is very sad, but I am sure he will grow up learing all about his grandfather and feeling very connected to him.

thanks everyone. With a heavy heart I have to post that he passed away this morning.

I was good and bit my tongue when MIL said it was so sad that Jack didn't get to meet him as if it was my fault.

DH is flying there tomorrow.

have you thought about trying priceline to get a ticket there? might be worth a try but i don't know how much work will let you take off... T&P with you during this hard time

I'm so sorry Robbi. It won't help Jack meet John I, but if you're looking to attend the funeral, most airlines have bereavement policies - not sure how much it will save you, but might be worth looking into. My condolences to you and your family.

I am so sorry. Hang in there...and no regrets...it won't change things anyway. Hopefully the three of you can go, but if not, I am sure your DH's grandfather knows how much you love him.
