recommend a vacuum please?

We have a combination of plush carpet, berber carpet, hardwood and vinyl tile in our home (a little bit of everything! haha) and about 10 steps (carpeted).  Is there a good lightweight vacuum that I could use on all of these surfaces???  And not too expensive??? Thanks!!!

Re: recommend a vacuum please?

  • Ours is ancient but still works great (def not lightweight) I will be really interested to hear what everyone says. I will say however that I am obsessed with our little dust buster. Its the best thing for quick cleans before company comes over especially in the guest bathroom (which is also my bathroom hubs has the master) and the kitchen. Oh and for couch cushions post company!
  • We have a Eureka but it's not really lightweight. It has a hose attachment, extension and a "Power Paw" (a small handheld roller that attaches to the hose for stairs or small spaces), and it shifts in height for the plush/berber carpet. I haven't used it on hardwood floors but I'd guess you could. I think it's an older version of this:

  • We love our Roomba (not cheap but oh so convenient, and it can handle most any surface), it was a wedding present!

We use our heavy duty Eureka dustbuster for stairs, much better than lugging a vacuum down and up stairs, IMO

  • We have a Eureka at home that does a good job but is pretty noisy and not so convenient for steps (doesn't have anything you can grab on to).

I have this one at work and it does a good job for the price:  http://www.walmart.com/ip/Bissell-PowerGroom-Vacuum/12542645

I know none of these reviews are all too helpful but just thought I would add my two cents :)

  • Thanks girls!  I love my dustbuster too!  It's great for little cleanups (and killing bugs LOL).

I usually swiffer the hardwood, but sometimes I think a vacuum would be quicker and more thorough.

     Keep them coming!!!  Thanks!

  • ok i know you said not too expensive BUT you can find them cheap if you do the leg work!

We have a Dyson Animal (DC28) and I would have married that if I'd had it before I married the DH.  Holy cow does it do a good job.  I absolutely love it.  I have a Maine Cooncat that sheds black fur and a dog that sheds white fur... = Ick!  BUT this thing is amazing.  We found it through Macy's on sale for about $350 then used promo codes for free shipping etc.  We also bought a close friend of ours one for their shower and found it through ebay for $340...  It came with the pet head and a few other attachments and has the option to stop the spinny brush for hardwood and it works great on that too.  Is a lil heavy but I like a challenge.  also cleans my car like a champ!!!

LOL I'll never buy another vacuum that isn't a Dyson...  hehe

    good luck!

  • whoa - yeah that's an expensive vacuum! but the dysons do look amazing!  i guess i'll watch for sales!  thanks for the info!!!
  • We just bought the Dyson All Floors (D25 - I think?) and I love it.  All of our house is hardwood with the exception of tile in the kitchen and bathroom and two area rugs.  I did reviews on the Dyson Animal, but it didn't seem like it switched from hardwood to carpet very easily at all.  The All Floors is amazing!  We have two dogs and I can't believe how much hair it sucks up every time.

I wasn't all about spending a bunch of money on a vacuum and was a very big doubter on the Dysons.  But after getting one, I'm definitely a believer.

We found ours at Best Buy since they were having a 20% off sale.  It was still $400 (originally $500), but since DH has a Best Buy credit card already that had $0 balance, we were able to put it on that and get it for 0% financing for 18 months.  Not that we'll need that long to pay it off, but it was nice to have to not come out of pocket.  Good luck on your search!
