**Mamie**

Life in the Fun Lane had a link to this blog, and this post is exactly what you need for your living room.  I'm not a huge fan of the distressed treatment, but painted black, this would be perfect for your living room:

Re: **Mamie**

  • BRILLIANT. I love it.

I need someone to find me something like that a yard sale and then paint it for me!

  • HA!  So all these creative blogs don't inspire you to greatness?

I love the original "woven" TV stand a tad bit more than the replacement.

  • They definitely inspire me, but I'm soooo bad at those projects. I do scour my local Craiglist for stuff, but never seem to find anything decent. Ugh. I wish I was craftier and less frightened by these things.  I have a few pieces I already own that I want to paint black, but I have to research the products I need and just how much I have to prime.

  • I love that... I want to try to find a dresser/changing table for the nursery that I can refinish.  I'm good at the refinishing part but terrible at the finding a good piece to begin with part becuase I hate garage sales and such.
  • Yeah, garage sales sound awful.  And we don't have a vehicle to transport them in.  What about estate sales?

I have dreams of finding a big china hutch and painting it white and putting it in my cottage chic kitchen.

  • My grandfather used to run a weekly auction but he sold the business.  I found so many good things there though from houses he would clean out when people passed away.  I have a dresser, end tables, and a desk that I've refinished and still currently use.  It would be a little far away now anyway but estate sales and auctions are great places to find stuff, its just harder to get good prices because that's what everyone is there for and there are some diehard auction goers who know when something is good and a lot of them are there to resell things.

There are a couple of flea markets around here that we are going to check out in the next couple months so hopefully we'll find something that way.

I had the china hutch dream as well... I wound up buying a buffet at Ikea for now.  It's white at least and I do like it.

  • I just saw this one on Craigslist.  Wouldn't that be so beautiful painted white?

  • Pretty... although I think I would want to remove the top molding but that's just me.
  • Yeah, that would make it look more modern.

I'm entranced by the lattice work, though.

  • I LOOOOVE yard sales. In fact, I'm going to a 50 mile long one this weekend. I always find great stuff. My grandmother is an antique dealer and taught me a lot about how to spot a good find. She once turned a $10 in a $3500 profit at an auction. She's amazing.
