Anyone taken Prometrium?

So DH and I just found out last Friday we were pregnant (yeah!!!). We had previously suspected I was low on progesterone, so I got tested and that was confirmed. I just today got a prescription for Prometrium. Anyone taken this before? I'm of course scared of everything, including how that one is taken (vaginal suppository . . . ewww!).

I've already had to get blood taken twice (once to test for progesterone and then again today to make sure my hcg number is going up), and pay $75 for this prescription. This parent thing is expensive, painful and time consuming!

I might DD later in case anyone I know is on here.

Re: Anyone taken Prometrium?

  • YAY Congrats on being PG! What's your due date?

Sorry I haven't taken it at all but I hope it works out!

  • I don't have experience with prometrium.  Just wanted to send my congrats! :)
  • Congratulations!!!!!

One of my friends took Prometrium.  She had to take it for the first 3-4 months.  She has a healthy 9 month old.

  • congrats!!! :)

i have only taken the all-natural progesterone pills that are compounded in the apothecary... sorry... but how far along are you? :)

  • First, congratulations on your pregnancy! I don't usually post around here, but I definitely know about Prometrium.  I've been taking it since I got pregnant this past time (and the pregnancy before). It's not that bad. I take 200 mg twice a day. Some people get upset stomachs and fatigue, but I'm not sure if that's the prometrium for me or the pregnancy. It did make my boobs really sore, but that's manageable. The biggest advice I can give you is invest in panty liners. You will have quite a bit of discharge (and don't worry if it's slightly yellow or pink - depending on your dosage, your pills will have color to it). I'll continue to take it until I'm officially out of the first trimester, which is next week. Good luck and I hope your HCG keeps on doubling!

  • No med advice, but congrats!
  • I actually had to take Prometrium when TTC because I needed help jumpstarting my period.  So, I am no help as far as taking it while pregnant.

But congrats on the pregnancy, and good luck in the next 9 months. :)
