Do you celebrate your pet's birthday?

Doggie Crushing just turned 1 year old two weeks ago.  I made him a special dinner, and took him on his favorite hike.

Previously H and I had a pup that died just after his 1st birthday.  For his 1st birthday we had an actual party with friends and other dogs.  I ordered a doggie birthday cake from a doggie bakery in NY (I had heard it was the best doggie bakery) and we had doggie games.  It was a little over the top, but he was like our baby.

In any case for some reason I didn't want to make such a big deal out of Doggie Crushing's 1st birthday because I associate my previous dog's 1st birthday and death together.  I know it is illogical. Now I sort of feel bad though...like I didn't make a big enough deal out of Doggie Crushing's birthday.  Sigh.

What does everyone else do for their pet's birthdays?

Re: Do you celebrate your pet's birthday?

  • Too cute! We celebrate our cat's birthday. We usually buy her a gift and give her extra treats Party!!!
  • our kitties get to enjoy wet cat food on their birthday (they're brothers). its the only time they ever get to eat it.
    Anniversary
  • He's ONE already?! Wow, that went by fast. Happy Belated Bday to Doggie Crushing! I think your celebration sounds perfect.
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • We just tell them Happy Birthday all day long (because you know, they understand that :-P) and give them a special treat. Of course since there are two of them with different birthdays, they both get the special treats, because they wouldn't understand why one was getting it and one wasn't :-P
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • I'll tell them happy birthday, and if we remember we give them some "people" tuna for dinner. For some reason I'm good at remembering Milo's birthday but not Bella's.

Don't you wish they understood?  Ha ha ha.  We were doing that all week...calling him Birthday Boy!

We haven't celebrated the dogs bday... And I always forget to celebrate his gotcha day. The kitten turns 1 soon so I'm sure he'll be spoiled... He loves food so he'll be happy with anything.
  • I usually get Sox a new catnip toy for his birthday (it's coming up!  Aug 18th).  He's going to be a teenager this year, 13!

  • Oh we totally do... we tell them happy birthday all day, give them special extra treats, and this year my mother actually made Loki a dog-friendly cake, and of course he shared with Freya.  WAY too cute...
  • Sure. Well, her "rescue day" which we age her 1 year on that day. This year she got a birthday cake (ground turkey, green beans, sweet potatoes, etc). Previous years she has gotten a new toy or doggy ice cream (yogurt, banana, peanut butter frozen).

She doesn't know, but I always say, "Happy rescue day, thank you for choosing us to share your life with!" and rub noses with her. Dh thinks I'm crazycakes. lol

I think that is adorable Punky!

  • Pretty much the same as Punky, we celebrate everyone's "gotcha days" by telling them we love them and how happy we are they are in our family more than usual. we try to remember to give extra treats and maybe a new toy. and that's the day we consider them another year older.
  • We celebrated our dog's birthday and we'll probably celebrate her "gotcha" day too which isn't until September.  We gave her a frozen treat for her birthday in lieu of a cake, although I LOVE the idea of the cake Punky made.

We also gave her a Christmas gift, we even wrapped it and let her "open" it, which was hilarious.  Around Halloween we gave her a plush Jack O' Lantern.

Now that I type all of this it seems kind of lame, hahaha!  And I'm sure we spoil her too much.
