Doggie Crushing just turned 1 year old two weeks ago. I made him a special dinner, and took him on his favorite hike.
Previously H and I had a pup that died just after his 1st birthday. For his 1st birthday we had an actual party with friends and other dogs. I ordered a doggie birthday cake from a doggie bakery in NY (I had heard it was the best doggie bakery) and we had doggie games. It was a little over the top, but he was like our baby.
In any case for some reason I didn't want to make such a big deal out of Doggie Crushing's 1st birthday because I associate my previous dog's 1st birthday and death together. I know it is illogical. Now I sort of feel bad though...like I didn't make a big enough deal out of Doggie Crushing's birthday. Sigh.
What does everyone else do for their pet's birthdays?
Re: Do you celebrate your pet's birthday?
Don't you wish they understood? Ha ha ha. We were doing that all week...calling him Birthday Boy!
I usually get Sox a new catnip toy for his birthday (it's coming up! Aug 18th). He's going to be a teenager this year, 13!
Happy Birthday Doggie Crushing!
Sure. Well, her "rescue day" which we age her 1 year on that day. This year she got a birthday cake (ground turkey, green beans, sweet potatoes, etc). Previous years she has gotten a new toy or doggy ice cream (yogurt, banana, peanut butter frozen).
She doesn't know, but I always say, "Happy rescue day, thank you for choosing us to share your life with!" and rub noses with her. Dh thinks I'm crazycakes. lol
13 Wow! That is amazing.
I think that is adorable Punky!
We celebrated our dog's birthday and we'll probably celebrate her "gotcha" day too which isn't until September. We gave her a frozen treat for her birthday in lieu of a cake, although I LOVE the idea of the cake Punky made.
We also gave her a Christmas gift, we even wrapped it and let her "open" it, which was hilarious. Around Halloween we gave her a plush Jack O' Lantern.
Now that I type all of this it seems kind of lame, hahaha! And I'm sure we spoil her too much.
