Mini- Pill

Hello, I am thinking about taking the mini-pill. I just have one question. Do you know if the mini-pill, like the regular birth control bill increase your risk for blood clots and strokes?

Re: Mini- Pill

  • Because the mini-pill is progesterone only, I don't believe that it does. But this would be a great question to discuss with your doctor, along with the effectiveness/error rate for mini-pill.

  • No, it does not increase the risk of blood clots.  I was put on the minipill after having a clot scare on combined bc.

  • I have had a blood clot in my right lung (PE from a picc line and blood infection- not from bc- even though I was on depo at the time) and was told by my hematologist that progesterone CAN cause a blood clot but it is much rarer than estrogen.  Talk to your MD- only he can tell you what risk you are for blood clots and strokes with each form of bc. HTH!
  • Thanks. I couldnt find a clear answer on the Internet. I will talk to my Dr. about it. I just wanted to do some research before my apt.
  • I think that the risk is less than with regular birth control.  My doctor prescribed a mini-pill for me because I was getting migraines (which go along with a higher risk for clots/strokes).
