DH and I are thinking about going to Atlanta Sept 12 weekend. We would go watch the braves play his beloved Cardinals for 2 games. I have been to Turner Field once and if I remember right it is in a pretty bad area. T found a really good deal on a hotel in Norcross Hilton Atlanta Northeast...we were guessing this was in a good neighborhood. Do you have any other recs for hotels? And places to eat?
Who let the dawgs out?

Re: Bev-Atlanta
butting in...go to the varsity! I've always wanted to go and never have in the million times I've been to atlanta. so you need to go for me.
dh and I enjoyed the Coke museum and Stone Mtn is pretty awesome. Kim and her hubby went to atlanta a while ago. I know she posted all about their trip on her blog.
You're correct - Turner Field is not in the best part of Atlanta. It's on the south side, which is overall, pretty bad.
I know right where that hotel is, off Peachtree Industrial Blvd, and it's not the best part of town, but not the worst either (also not really near Turner Field). It's a very industrial part of town, and not a place I'd want to be outside at night. If you don't mind spending the money (or you may find a good deal online), stay Downtown (CNN Center, Omni Hotel, etc) or in Midtown (near Lenox Mall or Phipps Plaza).
I'm with Lauren - definitely go to The Varsity! It's not amazing food or anything (greasy burgers, fries, onion rings, chili dogs, etc), but it's just part of the Atlanta experience. And it's a fun place.
Not sure if you have Mellow Mushroom where you are, but if not, GO TO MM!!!!! It's a pizza place and their pizza and calzones are amazing.
Let me know where you decide to stay, and I can give you some other restaurant/activity recs based on your location.
thanks for the heads up about the hotel. I told T and he agreed we did not need to be staying there.
Since we will only be there for 2 nights and both nights we will be at the game I am not sure how much we can cram into our sight seeing. Although I would love to see everything I know there is no way possible.
Lauren we went on a church youth trip to Atlanta when i was 14 or 15 and went to six flags, stone mountain, etc...we also went to the Varsity. I wont spoil your experience...but it was fun!
As a side note I had my first kiss at stone mountain during the laser show!
Butting in too - When I went to Atl a few years back, we stayed at the Omni and it was great! We got a good deal on hotwire/priceline or one of those places.
