Talk to me about them. DH and I would like to plan a trip for next year. It could honestly be anywhere. We just want somewhere all inclusive we can go hang out for a week or so.
1. Where did you go?
2. How much did it cost, approx.? (if you don't mind sharing)
3. Would you go back again?
4. Anything else I should know about it?

Re: All Inclusive Resorts
1. Barcelo AI in Tambor, Costa Rica
2. Not sure, since DH planned the honeymoon, but I think it was really affordable in June (beginning of hurricane season).
3. Yes, but not for our whole trip. It was amazing, and great for a HM to not have to worry about anything, but whenever we go back to CR, we'll probably do a couple days at an AI and a couple days exploring on our own, staying in dirt cheap hotel rooms.
4. AI's are great for a relaxing time. Swim up bars, fresh pineapple in your daiquiris, pools, beaches, excursions (extra cost). Usually you eat buffet but get a night or two at the fancier dining spots if you stay long enough.

My 101
1. We went to the Sandals Royal Bahamian
2. About $3500. That includes plane flight for 2 round trip for 5 nights, all you can eat, and all you can drink
If your room bar gets low you just call and they refill it. The alcohol alone was worth it. We went scuba diving, which is extra, but great fun!
3. Yes, it was great. It was our HM and we plan to go back at least to another Sandals. We had a wonderful time. We also went around the island to downtown, which was great, and to visit the aquariums at the Atlantis.
Love, love all inclusives...we got married at one and have been back 2 more times since then. Actually just got back from a trip about 3 wks ago.
1. We always go to Mexico, playa del carmen area
2. ranging from about 1000-1500 per person (this includes airfare, hotel, all food and drink) We did an awesome excursion this past time that was only about $115 per person more and that was really the only thing extra we spent except a couple of $10 tshirts.
3. Definately, i love going and not having to worry about figuring out cost for food and drink. also most of the nicer resorts will have plenty of activities (water and land) to keep you occupied. I think next time we go we will look at going to the pacific side of Mexico since we have been 3 times to the Mayan Riviera
4. If you can, i would stay at an adults only. Its nice not having alot of kids running around. They do tend to be a bit more expensive though. My fave out of all the ones we have been to is Excellence Rivera Cancun (its not actually in cancun)
1. Punta Cana- Majestic Excellence Resort
2. $3300 including airfaire and 6 nights for two people
3. Absolutely! It was our honeymoon so we got some extra upgrades but all in all this place was a great find for the money. Our travel agents tried to talk us into some more expensive places on the island but I'm glad we stayed with this one. I was afraid it would be too "disney land" like, too generic but I didn't find this true at all. I did feel a little bit like I had traveled through time and was on the set of dirty dancing (scheduled dance classes, etc) but that just made me laugh.
4. It really is worth the extra money to stay in the 18 and up part of the hotel or any other "exclusive" part- the private swimming pool alone was worth it for us. Plus you get bars that aren't crowded and lots of extra perks.
Biggest pro: daily entertainment that didn't cost extra, easy access to excursions that did cost extra but were well planned out and easy to do.
biggest con and only reason I would hesitate to go back: We are foodies, we love experiencing local culture through food and all inclusives just aren't about local cuisine. they had more european food (mostly european visitors there) then anything. The food they had was so-so, not great but nothing to complain about either. the best meal we had the whole time (in my opinion) was on an excursion when we went to a locally owned restaurant and they had traditional dominican lunch prepared. if we were paying for food it probably would have been our cheapest but it was my favorite
I'd say it depends on what you like. do you like to chill at the hotel most of the time? do you like to drink (IMO, you don't get your $$ worth if you don't!)? do you like to have everything taken care of? if you answered yes, AIs are probably for you. I've stayed at a handful, all in mexico, and they're great at the beginning but by the 5, 6, 7th day I am over.it.com. and I feel like I didn't experience the area much because it's difficult to justify going out to eat when you're basically paying for all of your meals. KWIM?
I'd do research on tripadvisor.com and go from there. also definitely rec an adult-only resort, the last thing I want on my vacay is a bunch of screaming kids in the pool.
Ditto Angelaggie! We spent 6 days and had a blast, we even went back for our 1 year anniversary.
My sister-in-law and soon to be brother-in-law have been going to the ones in Jamaica for years and love it so much that they are getting married there in March.
